Hey all, Bawanna sent me the two auction blades and I have been working on them between some other jobs. its definitely cool doing this to help Auntie out. I have a few pics of the progress mostly the bowie as I started it first. Hope ya like them. Sorry for the pic size photobucket is really bad tonight.
First up is a few of the template I worked up

Next is a shot of the sheath cut out and has the beaver tail laminated to the base leather.

Here we have the stock sheath with mine still in the rough, I sanded the edges to get my lines cleaned up and set my stitching holes, retention strap holes and wet the top so I could roll it back to make the belt loop.

Thats as far as I am along with the bowie, need to dye it, glue and stitch and wet mold it and final finish.

The mini spear I have the template done and have cut the leather out but thats it so far.

And lastly another project I just finished up, Bawanna you will dig this,
Yes it's a beaver inlay lol

Oh man, my drool cup runneth over. The beaver inlay is sweet. Looking good on all counts.

Sure got plenty of forward cant don't it? Are you a lefty?

I dig the Colt too.

It has a really nice cant to it, if not you would draw it for a week due to size lol. It actually sits very well on the belt. I am a lefty, another reason for me to do some holsters, not much lefty love out there. But alas this holster was not for me, it was a customers pistol, nice 100th anniversary Colt. I have an older Kimber Custom II.
Heres another with a tad less cant, a Glock 43 with a canebreak rattle snake inlay. Local snake harvested in my buddys back yard.

Good use for snake if you ask me. Scary thinking snakes in the back yard though.

I didn't know you was a lefty.........I guess we can still be buddies though.

I've always been a straight up draw guy myself but of late I've been going with a bit more forward cant. Probably easier on the shoulders I guess and it helps printing on a covering garment. Course in a chair printing don't show much. People probably figure it's a drool cup or something.

You definitely got talent in the leather racket. If you don't have a journeyman card, you should.

This thread is awesome. Thanks for the pictures! I now have a much better idea on how these sheaths are constructed.
This is my first time hearing of a 'cane break' rattler. Very interesting.

Why is the retention strap so high on the stock sheaths? Still puzzled.....

I think being the handle is rather bowling pin shaped they put the strap up high on the narrow part of the handle so the handle won't slip through if you tried to pull the knife up.

Just my guess, got nothing to back it up with.

Your welcome, the construction of the sheath is just how I do it, not sure if its the proper way but its my way if that make sense. The canebreak rattler I believe is also called the timber rattler, slight color differences but same snake. We have tons of them along with copperheads and water moccasins. Definitely have to watch your step outside. The strap could be up higher due to the thinner leather thats used on the belt loop, if its lower the blade would kind of tip or be flimsy. By putting it up higher it kind of balances the blade and sheath. Just my humble opinion, but not sure.

Have a few more pics of the progress. Sheath is dyed chocolate which I think goes very well with the scales on the bowie. I ran into a snag today I overlooked how thick the spine is on the bowies, so I needed to add another section of welt to the spine side. Not a big deal just time consuming.
The pics show the belt loop ready to stitch up and just a mock up of the sheath and blade.

Not to toot my own horn here just thinking out loud so to speak. The guard on that knife just does something for me. Not sure what it is but if I do another I'll be trying to duplicate that again. Not sure I can, got lucky I think.

Makes a good stop going into that beautiful sheath too although I reckon it might be a pain to work around.

It's beautiful, I love it!

Im glad you like it, but will look better when finished.

That's some beautiful work!

Thank you very much.

Im really digging the guard, kinda gives a measure of security to the blade, I mean, with it your hand cant slip forward on the blade. It looks great as well. Would love to see you do more like that.

Thats some fantastic leatherwork right there! I do like them holsters. Who wouldda thunk you cold make a Glock look that good! Them inlays are really classy:thumbup:
