Aus8/ aus8-a?

Hi folks,
This is probably a simple question, but I haven't been able to find a clear, straightforward answer, so please excuse my ignorance.

Is AUS8 the same as AUS8-A? I've seen claims stating that there's absolutely no difference, others saying that the "-A" indicates annealed, and still others that say AUS8-A has a slightly different composition - more moly or some such. Would someone please clear this up for me?

Thanks!

P.S. - apologies if this is in the wrong forum

This question comes up every once in a while.

Same composition. The "A" stands for "annealed", or "not hardened".

Aichi is the manufacturer of the steel. Their current web site only shows "AUS 8".
