Off Topic Australia on fire

I decided to donate $100 to the NSW Rural Fire Service. I've donated to the California fires before, so why not help out our Australian brothers as well...

Sixx, Brother, that is truly awesome !!!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

The NSW RFS is a volunteer force. People take time off from their paying jobs and families to save people's homes all night. Three of them have died this fire season. They are seriously underfunded by the government, paying out of pocket for decent smoke masks, relying on donated food and drink, they sleep in the dirt on the side of the road to get some rest, etc. I have no doubt that donations would be genuinely useful and appreciated. Thank you Sixx and Imcq !!!

I didn't realize I only donated $100AUD. I thought it was USD lol.

I'm going to donate another $50AUD now.
Mate, that is a fantastic thing to do, it sometimes takes a disaster to realize the amount of good in people. The amount of good people on Bladeforums knows no bounds. The good Karma bus will stop and pick you up, when you least expect it. You have a good weekend my friend.;)

Melbourne shrouded in smoke the whole day today...
There was some good rains through the winter and spring, but couple of weeks without rain and everything turns bone dry.
Currawong, hope you stay safe and the fire doesn’t get close.

If it wasn’t for treehuggers, the scheduled controlled burns during cold months would have reduced the risk so much...

Thanks mate. And Victoria is getting hit even harder at the moment. It's pretty bad all over the place.

It's kinda funny... had visitors from Europe over the holidays, we've done a fair bit of driving around Melbourne...
South west is still greenish, but anything north or east is completely dry.
Honestly, I have no idea why this time around there are no water restrictions in Melbourne!?!?!?!

And I had to be physically stopped from going after a hipster and strangling him for smoking in national park!

It's funny....... I was just here in Sydney for the 93/94 fires.....right after those there were all the pledges that the "Greens had gone too far stopping the back burns/load reduction burns and that this was going to change".....26yrs on...."we have to do more load reduction burns" ........ there is a saying about not learning from history.... !!

..... a week ago I put on my professional angry face at the local supermarket.... they had several shopping trolleys lined up at the entrance with a young, it was a collection for the local RFS guys with a request (like I said above) for high energy snacks, energy drinks and bottled water etc. The idea being as people shopped they could grab a little extra and drop it in on the way out. As I was putting some stuff in there was a dickhead who thought it funny (my guess is that he was visiting my suburb from Lakemba elof_alv) to buy and drop a bulk pack of matches in the collection....I had a few pointed words with him and sent him on his way....

Andy,
My northern boundry fence was designated foresty, then it became national parks.
It took me 15 years to get them to control burn a small section of bush bordering me. The red tape that had to be gone through was unbelievable meanwhile we were living next to bush with dead matter over a foot deep.
You would wonder how many greenies live in the bush.

I can answer that, very very few. If there are no tram lines, they won't live there.

Yes mate, when I was running that place on the coast it was surrounded by overgrown and layered "park" I did all the work with all the other agencies to get a burn arranged and then three times it was cancelled because of wind, time, interest and concerns for wildlife. Now of course 8yrs on it still hasn't been done and they are afraid the whole mountainside is going to go up. Of course they are also falling back on the evacuation plan I wrote up with the RFS and NSWF&R. It's just farcical.....

I should have added that back in the days when forestry did control that section of bush I had no problems getting them to back burn.
What a difference these days.

You guys obviously have some ideas and I'm sure most that live in the sh*t there do - but the problem I fear when discussions begin on the how's and why's will be overshadowed by the climate debate and then here come the politicians and the SJW's and walla! once again nothing practical happens. I already see some scattered stories filled with garbage discussions that provide absolutely no practical solutions or ideas, just more activism and politicizing of widespread suffering.
Your ideas on back burning and controlled burns as preventative measures are exactly why you see what happens in California from time to time. Those kooks are so concerned about C02 and butterflies they stopped the burning until the crap builds up and becomes a tinderbox. You get the hot and dry Santa Anna winds and a little spark *or as in most cases in Cali an idiot pissed at the world sets the place a light on purpose*

Praying for you folks ..

We (The 0 and hubby) were contacted many months ago by local zoos, shelters ect to help out the misplaced animals in Australia to help with finding homes for them (We donated cause we LOVE all animals) I have kept it very quiet because that is how we like it. Geez, it was tough, so many rules with transferring furry friends to different places but luckily we had a friend that helped us so much (Thank you Sandra) anyhoo I just want to Thank Jerry Busse for doing this. It is AWESOME. Mr. 0 and me LOL would like to donate supplies to all that need them BUT with all of the custom issues and shipping I would prefer someone from Australia to help US out. This is just from me and hubby. If you could email me a link that actually goes to people that need them to amy@bussecombat.com or let me know if you would be willing to help Amy-0 out that would be wonderful. God Bless, Stay Safe and Much LOVE FROM US.
