We've sold a lot of blocks and scales lately and our stock was running low but we've had a big couple of days and have just listed new Ringed Gidgee blocks and scales.

Remember these have been harvested from long dead trees, in a very dry climate, so they are ready to use.

3rd hardest timber in the world, a beautiful cat's eye glow and a depth to the figure that is second to none.
We ship all around the world.

You can stabilize Gidgee but when a wood is 3 rd hardest in the world and has a moisture level of 7% or less why would you? I haven't seen anyone try and stabilize Arizona ionwood and this stuff is equivalent to that. Does he do it ? I don't think he does . It's hard enough finding it and cutting it up. It's a truly beautiful wood and Pete is a great guy. You won't go wrong in purchasing any of his woods and he has some great ones other than just Gidgee.

Desert Ironwood also has a very high oil content which is what makes it near impossible to stabilize. I get what your saying though about the Gidgee being a very strong/hard/dense wood. I just prefer to stabilize the wood so as to give it some extra protection from any accidental dissolvent spills, acids and the like. Not that they would necessarily burn through the wood, but from badly staining it, even if you remove the dissolvent almost immediately. On a custom knife, sending it out for repairs etc, it's not something I'd enjoy doing. I also like the added bonus of making the wood insect proof.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe that I've already spoken with Peter a few months ago on Ebay. At the time, I was looking to buy 2 sets of nice scales for the knives AdamV is now making me. If it was him, again, I waited for numerous days before he responded, so I bought from another large scale supplier on Ebay and had them shipped to Tennessee for stabilizing... which was unsuccessful anyway because the woods were ancient, thousands of years old. So again, I bought another 2 sets of scales, but this time stabilized.

I think poor Peter must live out in the stumps and probably doesn't access the net as often as he'd like. The reason I attempted to buy off him first was because I realized his woods were special by the pics he had on Ebay.

Not to worry, I'll store his details and next time I need scales I'll contact him well in advance and leave the bloke some more leeway to get back to me. I think my man in Tennessee mentioned to me that he often has good success with stabilizing Gidgee. But knowing my luck. LOL

Cheers.

Ha Ha , Yes Pete can be wayyyy out back looking for wood sometimes, definitely no internet out there . It's one of those woods that is very stable if dried but even some Aussies stabilize it just because . Keep with Pete his woods are worth it .
Merry Christmas all from Down Under.

I've had several blocks and scales from Peter stabilized with no issues. Like Parker said, it likely doesn't need it, but it doesn't hurt anything.

After conversion, that is only 64 USD. 21 dollars each for Gidgee? That's a bargain. 61 Euros.

Hi P Boyer, I just checked the blocks, and 2 of them have already sold...we've sold quite a few in the last few days. One of them had an incorrect weight on it so it will have made the shipping cost incorrect. To ship 3 average size blocks to France would cost approximately $37AUS.

Hey Coke, Sorry about not getting back to you quickly. As well as cutting timber, I also am a builder and a sheep/cattle farmer. My wife does a lot of the computer work and she's a teacher. So sometimes we don't always get to the messages as quickly as we should. Happy to help you find what you need. The best way is via email thetimberjoint@hotmail.com
Cheers Peter

Hiya Peter,

No problem there Peter, as I said, I'll give you more leeway whenever I want something.

Cheers.
