If you like desert ironwood, you are going to love this stuff!
The ringed gidgee and belah are as dense or denser than desert ironwood. The others in this thread come pretty close. These are blocks that I got in a recent shipment from Australia. I re-sanded the blocks to remove the belt sander lines and took better photos. After these are gone, I will see if I can get more. The photos make the wood look a little bit lighter in color because of the flash. Some pieces may have some very fine surface checks that may require the use of a little CA glue. This is all very nice wood that I would like to keep for myself. Some of the best I have seen.

US shipping is $2.50 per block, free if you get 2 or more. Canada is $10 for up to 3 blocks. The rest of the world $12 for up to 3 blocks.

My address to make payment through paypal is itsaburl@hotmail.com.

Just post "I'll take #s...." and I will mark them sold for you. This is not the kind of wood you buy when you need it. This is the kind you buy when you can get it.

Wow... I can't believe nobody has jumped on #6 and #7. Those Yellow Mallee blocks are fantastic. If I hadn't just spent a ton of green on this year's WSSI processing, I'd jump at those two. I'm a wood addict, and those two blocks look like they would be a nice FIX. ;)

I'll take #13.

I was thinking this would be a real good one for folders or something that would take advantage of the tight fiddleback figure. You'll like this one Phillip. Cut it thin and you'll be able to dress up a lot of folders like you do.

LFowler, right now there are no more pieces like #8. I liked it too. To me it looked a lot like a camo pattern.

Erin, I agree, the other yellow mallees are pretty cool as well.

Why isn't anyone paying attention to the rosewood?
That piece is so dense you can't see any pores in the grain and the colors are really nice.
The Belah is really nice too. Feels like you are holding a piece of iron instead of wood. Really hard and heavy. I am told it is difficult to find a piece this size with good figure and no flaws.

Only 3 of the Ringed Gidgees left. The Australians have a lot of really cool woods to choose from and this is the most popular with them, especially for bigger knives. Or so they have been telling me. If the grain and flash look a lot like Koa, there is a good reason. Both are in the Acacia family of trees. The ringed gidgee is a variety of desert acacia with density that can range from 1.0 to 1.4 according to info on the Australian Knife Maker Guild website. As a comparison, desert ironwood tends to range from 1.0 to 1.2 in density.

I was asked a question about the Belah. (Now Sold)
One of the Australian knife makers made a post in a previous thread; "I can't believe no one has jumped on the piece of Belah. It is seriously hard wood and polishes like glass. It is rare to get a piece without flaws even here in Aust, come on and give it a go, I bet no one else in the US has used it yet. Cheers. "
Looking at it in person my opinion is; cool figure and colors, super hard and heavy, looks like it will polish up real nice. I would cut in half for 2 handles if I was using it. Since it is an uncommon wood I would save it for important projects. Just my 2 cents.

I'll take #4. Does this wood need to be stabilized? Can you combine shipping with the redwood I just bought? Thanks

It is one of the woods that can be stabilized but in my opinion does not need to be. Really hard stuff. You'll see.
No problem combining with purchase from other thread for shipping. Thanks, Mark
