I posted this question on the Shop Talk Forum, but nobody answered. I'll try again here.

I am sorry to post a so silly question, but I would appreciate very much if someone could explain me what the last letter in AUS alloys is for. For example, AUS6 and AUS6M, what are the differences? There are AUS8 and AUS8A also, or am I wrong?

Thanks in advance.

"8A" is another name for "AUS-8".
"AUS-8A" is an improper made up hybrid name.

Likewise "6A" = "AUS-6".

I haven't heard of "AUS-6M".

AUS-6M Is CRKT's modified version of AUS-6. It's used in the Mirage series.

AUS-6M has additonal Molydenum added. AUS-8W has tungsten added. AUS stands for Austenite. AUS-6 = approx .6% carbon, AUS-8 = approx .8% carbon, AUS-10 = approx 1% carbon.
