Real, stainless steel handle, early second generation, only fair condition. I'm probably the member whose name was eluding someone earlier. Third from the left.

Yablanowitz, you were the other guy who I knew would know. I forgot your name, but knew it was the guy with the little mean looking dog!

Nice collection btw. Could you give details about the all black one.

Don't overthink this. It's just a knife. :)

Too many times I've seen second thoughts about a buy go unheeded and the deal ends up better left undone. Whether the knife is a fake or the seller had second thoughts, you might be buying aggravation. And negative feedback just embitters everyone.

Not too many details. It is a second generation, serrated edge, no steel marking which puts it in the right age catagory for a factory black finish, but it was purchased on eBay with no box so no way to prove it was factory and not aftermarket. The finish is shiny, and the aftermarket jobs I've seen have been matte finish, so I believe this one may be factory.

In some cases, I might be inclined to agree. Mistakes happen from time to time. If I were the buyer, I'd ask for a bit more clarification on the details of this supposed "fake" Spyderco e-mail before passing judgment.

But on a more frustrated note, I've had sellers dog out like this on a sale more than once for petty reasons and it really sullies the spontaneous auction experience. Negative feedback does work on occasion. I know it's rare for buyers these days, but I still read a seller's feedback profile before making a purchase. If they exhibit a lot of behavior like what is being discussed here, I won't bid. I won't lie and say it doesn't feel good to zap someone when you're upset, but there is a valid reason for doing so and if warranted, it can help future savvy buyers avoid the same situation.

I have a zippo with a "black chrome" finish, it kind of reminds me of that. Very cool, I assumed it was a custom job.

I didn't see the auction, but judging by what I see in the pictures, I wouldn't have gone over $40 for it. (Going back to the original topic)

It could be seller's remorse, but is unwarranted if so. In that condition, it isn't a valuable collector's piece, and it will probably need work to make a good user.

Agreed. I find that sellers sometimes just see the high price that an item similar to theirs went for and assume they'll get the same price, regardless of condition. Could be what's going on here. That price also makes it one of the less expensive Police models to sell recently, if I recall.
