"Authorized Dealer" & warrantee - Thoughts?

Ok, I've run across this this twice now. A warrantee on a product is no good unless the product is bought from an authorized dealer.

This strikes me as a "backdoor" way to enforce price controls. It seems to me you either stand by your product our your don't.

The person you got it from, hence the price you paid for it, should make no difference.

And if it is price control, why not have the guts to just say it?

Thoughts?

This kind of warranty issue has been upheld by the courts (even the supreme court.) It has been used by manufacturers in several industries to combat gray market distribution. So it appears to be legal.

Is it moral? Well that's something you can decide for yourself. It doesn't do anything for me, personally. Take care.
