Hey fellas...posted this here because this is survival related for Mrs. Q who couldn't find her way around a racetrack. I bought a Garmin NUVI 680 for Mrs. Q at Costco yesterday ($350.00). It seems to work goods, but she'll put it through more rigorous testing today when she ventures out into the wilds of suburbia.

The NUVI interface seems simple and straight-forward. However, it includes a MP3 player and some other features that are just STUPID IMHO. In addition, at first glance it appears that one cannot enter and save addresses on the computer and then transfer the data onto the NUVI which is disappointing.

Do any of you guys use a GPS inside your vehicle? If yes, please tell me you experiences with your unit. What is your make & model number. What do you like about it? What don't you like about it?

Any and all information would be greatly appreciated.

I use Co=pilot live with bluetooth connections to my cell phone a Motorola Q, it has walking, driving directions, you can save any location as a favorite with a couple of button pushes. the bluetooth receiver is about the size of a small matchbox and will receive when in shirt pocket, it has saved me many of times when I made some bad turns in downtown Atlanta when it was off and I ended up in some not so nice neighborhoods while attending Blade. I turned it on, had already had Hotel as a favorite and it took me straight back to it. They have a newer version out for 99 dollars that added 100,000 miles of streets. It is on order. Works great walking or driving.

Good Luck,

PS: My business also uses a laptop version of same, we use to have to train drivers how to get to certain locations of customers out in the boonies, but now we have saved all locations as favorites and can put a newbie out on the road with itinerary and he will be given turn by turn directions to each customer as he drops the material off at each customer. We love it and have save thousands by Not having to send second driver with first to train new one.

Garmin is the best. You done good:thumbup:

Consumer reports top three GPS's were all Garmins.Tom Tom was #8

I have a ViaMichelin POS!It works ok most of the time, but crashes on a regular basis..3X in 1 year!No updates, lousy CS....I should've done more research before jumping on that sale.:(

We a Garmin nüvi® 750. we not only use it in the vehicle, but on the trail, off road also.
The only disappointment is it doesn't run very long on it's own Battery power and somethings when starting out on a trip we have had a slow satellite link up at times.
Other than that, I'm sold on the value of have GPS. Being without one now would be like life without a Computer.:)

I have a Garmin Nuvi 280 or something. I think its great. My only issues with it are waiting for satelite link.

I have a Tom tom also. Its fine but not as user friendly. It does however pick up satelite faster.

Edit; I also carry a map in the car of where I'm going, just in case.

I have the basic garmin nuvi 200 - it's been fine for everything we've thrown at it (planning routes, finding a restaurant, etc...) No problems gettings a satelite, and it's pretty responsive in recalculating routes on the fly. Price was about $150 from amazon.

bought my wife a magellan about 8 years ago, also installed a gps program into my lap top. the compact size of the magellan was ok, but as you get older and the eyes start to go the large screen of the laptop has made it easier to use for me, although somewat unweildly in the front seat.

i like the gps and my wife hate to be without hers. i just bought her a new one magellan for $129 at costco and it seems to work well, the reciever is much better than the original and works even when held in your lap in the front passenger seat.
i have the delorme street atlas on my computer and it does a nice job also.

i dont feel that these are totally foolproof but have done a great job going from piuttsburgh to cheyenne wyoming and further on occasion taking me right where i wnat to go and also pointing out the gas stations and other road side necessities as needed.

I've got a nuvi 350. I bought it 3 years ago when they cost about 500 dollars. Now they are only 200. Works Great and have had no problems with it:) I even bought a map sd card for it for a trip I took to Ireland and parts of the uk. There it was incredibly useful.

I have a nuvi

the mp3 player for me isnt that bad , I store a couple gig of mp3s on a memory card and let it roll when Im in a car that has no radio

the picture viewer thing , I dont really like but its not that bad either ... I used it to show the pics of home to the inlaws .

the gps itself works fine , easy enough for me to use anyway .

I have no real complaints about it .
