I've had many discussion about autos with various knifemakers over the past several years. IMHO we need to be very discreat about this subject. Most states prohibit the production, possession, and/or sales of these devices. I suspect that sooner or later, someone will get caught selling "under the table", and the knifemakers in general will get a really big black eye from it. This may sound like I'm being over cautious. But recently an off duty sheriff was walking through a local gun/knife show and came across a fellow selling some commercial autos. The knives were confiscated, he was fined big $$$, and kicked out of the show. The individual is now banned from attending shows in the future, not to mention the publicity he received in the newspapers. Just not worth it as far as I am concerned.

autos are very contiversial, so they stay out of my hands, out of my shop and out of my house. never will own one, unless it's legal to buy them, anywhere.

Best we stay out of the auto discussions, no need to give the jack booted thugs an excuse
to go after knives the way they are after the guns.

No matter if it's illegal to make, distribute, give away, carry, own, or possess a switchblade, it is not illegal to talk about making them. Take care! Michael

very true, but we don't want to get the bladeforums.com site owners trouble, or give knifemaking a bad rap.

If auto knives are such a taboo, why is there an auto knives forum for collectors???????????

The only answer to that question is to reference the state laws. I personally think it's rather dumb that most states allow collectors to possess them, and yet even the portion of the law that forbids sales of autos, applies to those same collectors. I was visiting with a local customer over the weekend, and he collects autos. He was telling me how he could only purchase autos in states where it was leagal, and that he was not allowed to sell, trade, or even give away, one of the autos. I suspect that it could be done without getting caught, but then we're back to the reason why I earlier posted that I was not in favor of an auto forum. Sooner or later someone will not be able to resist saying they have/will make an auto for someone, and should the wrong parties see that info, the "witch hunt" would be on.

i agree with ed, not that we don't like autos but someone may slip up, then the bladeforums could be shut down, and that's not good, sorry l6.

I guess its just too tough for me to realize how damn liberal this country is getting!! Sorry for pushing a bad idea Forumites!!! Maybe someday an honest citizen will be able to do as he pleases and own anything he wants as long as he doesn't harm anyone else with it. God Bless America!!!!!!!!!!!! Have a great Thanksgiving Forumites!!!!!!!!!
