I just called the Illinois Attorney General office about there laws on auto knifes and they sent me to a web site www.ilga.gov and one this site it tells you about there laws. I also notice it says that there Police officers are allowed to have them. does anyone have any Ideas about this please???

I think that automatic knife laws are really outdated these days. back in the day all pocket knives where pretty much 2 handed openers so a switchblade was just amazingly fast. now you have a knives that open just as fast as a switchblade with a thumb stud or hole. But, Automatic knives come in really useful when you need to access a blade in the winter time with gloves on (try opening a knife with a thumb stud/hole with heavy gloves). as for cops carrying switchblades i really don't care, let them carry what ever they want. as for me i'm more of a buck 110 kind of guy but i also appreciate the newer designs too (Chris Reeve's Sebenza gotta get that some day!!)

I agree with you but I just want other people veiw on this. the smith and wession cutting horse. you could have gloves on and still flick it out with your wrist fast.

Typical LE and Military are allowed to carry Switch blades or OTF's as they should for the nature of the duties. Now is it the best thing for them to carry over a tactical folder for a defensive situation maybe not. I would be more inclined to carry a small or medium fixed blade for on duty defensive applications...depends on the logistics of carrying it over a folder. Many LE guys carry more than one blade.

i own many many knives....

most i open with a flick of the wrist or with the Emerson Hook.....

as fast or even faster then a switchblade.

I have an automatic 110. It was converted. :p As far as IL laws go, I couldn't tell you. It would seem to me that the AG's office would be able to tell you.

EDIT: According to Wikipedia they are ILLEGAL in IL. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Switchblade Click on the link and scroll down to find additional links for IL state code. I did and I now believe that even possession by the average citizen is expressly illegal in IL. But I am not a lawyer. IMO work should be done to change these laws. ;)

I think that auto knife laws are stupid. My Kershaw blur opens just as fast as any of my autos.

I'm pretty sure that the police are allowed. Why shouldn't they be? The question is that why aren't you? It makes no sense. Click on the links and read the following carefully and you should see that you are not allowed to carry or even possess. I can offer you no reason as to why. Somebody should fight it.

Was it any different after the conversion and how much did it cost?
