Auto LAWKS by CRKT

I have an older m-16 with the regular LAWKS and a new m-21 with the autoLAWKS, and much prefer the manual version. the auto is a PITA, and takes away enough of the functionality that I use the m-16 more even though I prefer the blade on the 21.

Jeez, we seem to have something of a consensus here, mostly from folks that are CRKT owners. Hopefully CRKT will take note...

I like the standard LAWKS better than the auto, but the worst is the auto-LAWKS on the M16-10KZ sold at Wal-Mart. On that, the LAWKS disk is reversed, and only the tip of the bent tab contacts the linerlock to keep it from disengaging (rather than the flat surface of the disk itself). I composed a complaint/suggestion to CRKT, and they just asked me to send mine back as defective. It was the design, not a manufacturing defect, that I was complaining about.

The idea behind the Auto LAWKS system is forgivable, but in actual use, it's absolutly terrible. Too difficult to disengage without extended use, and even then, it's annoying. What the hell are you going to do with a knife that has Auto LAWKS on it that you wouldn't do with a regular well manufactued liner lock?

It's like they're adding in extra safetly precautions instead of focusing on making a more reliable liner lock for their models...

I love CRKT knives...I have nearly 20 of them, and they are among my favorites. That being said, I overall am not very impressed with the autolawks system. The LAWKS system seems to be an excellent locking device on its own, and I didn't feel it needed any tweaking. I have now passed on 2 CRKT folders and went with fixed blades rather than get the autolawks. I need to try it some more, but so far, I am not very thrilled with it.

I owned a CRKT with an Auto-lawks system on it, it became second nature to close it one handed, wasn't a big deal for me... that being said HOWEVER, I will concede that it is highly uncomfortable for:

1) Left handed people (CRKT staff need to test using it in their left hand, it truly is awkward that way)
2) People with larger hands
3) People with less dexterity.

That being said, I feel I must add in here that the Auto-Lawks + LINER Lock is the one where the issues come in (excepting of course, the left handedness) the "new" Elishewitz Pharoah blade, is the Auto-Lawks with a button lock, and that knife has a 'sweet spot' where if you have the pivot screw in just the right position, and hold the knife sort of vertically (or even semi) and then pull back the auto-lawks while pushing the button lock with your thumb, gravity will grab the blade & it'll just drop.... easiest knife ever, to close. (If you're right handed... haven't tried that one left handed)

I'm a lefty and I close my M21 just fine one handed. :D I use my index finger for the red button, thumb for the scale...presto done.....just takes practice.

I have had an early m16SF Big Dog and carry it every day.
Folks, I have and use alot of knives and this knife was so good I bought a second just to put away. Why? Because everything good immediately has its production stopped...

Too late...it arrived...the auto LAWKS...STOP =DO NOT BUY THE AUTO LAWKS MODEL=

Let put away the niceties and get to it...

1. Awful, simply awful new redesign that ruins the knife...DONT BUY ONE.
2. My two year old blade when closed cannot be moved side to side..when CLOSED. The new one almost hits the scales and can be wiggled without a doubt...CRAP.
3. The new model weighs alot less and handle poorly.
4. The auto LAWK is prefect for anyone that wants to do a little goofy finger dance EVERY TIME they want to close their knife. The "with a little practice" crowd has too much time.
5. So here it comes, Columbia River...you BLEW IT. Completely and without question you stormed over the tipping point and ruined your best design. Find out who re-designed it, who approved it, who tested it and who allows the new loose blades out the door..AND FIRE THEM. If it was LAKE and WALKER themselves, all is lost and we can now shelve their whole knife series.

i was ok with the lawks device too but then bought a new model with the autolawks and hated it. i wont consider a knife with it and crkt has lost a customer in me by employing that stupid device as most all their pieces have it.
