Kershaw's Launch series is a good option if you're looking for a less expensive USA made line. I have the Launch 2
and It's a surprisingly nice EDC. Their 154cm is good stuff too.

Hate to disagree with you, but I would not recommend any of the Launches.
I had 2 that would only lock up if you held the knife spine up. Any other position in hand and they would ‘bounce’ off the stop pin, and not lock up. Few reviews on You Tube point this problem out.

I am an auto nut and would not hesitate to recommend a Pro Tech TR3 as a first.
They are nothing short of fantastic knives. Extremely reliable and well built. CS is second to none and there are a bunch of styles to choose from. The fish scale model is really cool and not expensive.
The bottom one is a manual.

Lots of love for Protech and Microtech so far. I'm happy to see such positive feedback for autos in general.

How does everyone feel about the BM AFO2?

I just bought a Protech TR3 w/ the fish scale design scales. Of course I had to take it out of the box and make sure it was OK before giving it to him. I'm not really an auto guy but man this knife was impressive. So much so, I'll probably pick one up for myself at some point.

I have the same one and agree it’s incredibly nice. Too nice to use really so it mostly sits in a drawer. With that said, I really like the new Whiskers design they showed off at Shot and would be tempted to try one if I were in the market for an auto.

The Stitch is nearly double the price of some of the other autos. I wonder if it's that much better. I'm gonna order soon. It's down to the Stitch and the AFO2. Choices subject to change :)

Like I said, that is the drawback on the Stitch. For me though, the handle aesthetics of the AFO II would eliminate it.

Don't mean to derail your thread, but I know a big old nothing about autos.

What's the lock strength like on the Benchmade and Protechs?

Those AFO II's look sweet.

I have both and each lock up TIGHT! They can both be used with confidence. I kinda favor Pro Tech over BM for autos. They’re snappier, most auto knuts prefer that type of action......me included.

Snappier does sound like it would be better. I wish I didn't like the AFO2's as much as I seem to (from online vids). It would make my deciding easier.

But it seems like I can't really go wrong with either the AFO2 or Stitch so I'm just gonna pick one. I'll probably end up owning both eventually anyway.

Quick question why is the godson impractical as an EDC? I was about to get one for my brother for his bday. He has a beat to boker ak47 auto that he's been edcimg for 10 years now.

I like ProTech as well. My Godson is wildly impractical and gets no pocket time, but it's awesome so I keep it. Their TR3 is truly an outstanding piece, and I'll probably add the Steampunk version to my stables next.

Green Beret buddy has a Benchmade AFO that went with him to hell, back, to hell again, back again, lather-rinse-repeat and it looks it. But it's still rock solid and fires as hard as when he bought it. A bit heavy and bulky for me, but he loves it. I myself prefer the BM Mini Reflex... smaller, lighter and ergonomic as all get-out.

Get something that is useful and will see some pocket time. Lots of choices out there, so enjoy.

Well, the blade shape and grind is not the most utilitarian out there. It's a stiletto with a very fine tip and a straight edge. I wouldn't put too much hard use on the tip, it's just too thin and pronounced... and so I would choose another option for utility EDC.

The blade is obviously designed to be effective at stabbing, thrusting and puncturing. While I'm sure it would excel at this task, the handle offers no guard or choil or such to keep one's hand from sliding up onto the blade edge. The aluminum handle would probably become very slick in a sweaty hand, so I would choose something else for a defensive carry.

Add to this that my version is a Steampunk prototype, and I really would like to keep it pristine. Even if I had a more Plain Jane version, laws in Washington State just add to the impracticality of daily carry for me.

Don't get me wrong, the Godson is a neat piece and very well constructed. The steel is done right and gets incredibly sharp, and the knife is really affordable, offering plenty of bang for the buck. The things that make it impractical for me may not apply to everybody.

Go ahead and get one for your brother. Even if he finds it not too utilitarian, he'll definitely find it awesome.

At thus point I'm very interested in Pro-Tech.

Also , just saw some autos by Brian Tighe and Friends that look nice.

I pull the trigger tomorrow.

If you want heavier use PT I can recommend the CQC7a, it's a stout one without being too heavy or big. I got the spear point and it's a great all arounder. Button locks are crazy strong, you will destroy the blade before the lock fails. I think it was BM that video'd some testing and it was really impressive.

I just don't see the extra $200 in the MT Stitch personally, I'm sure it is nice but I don't like the design. Blade shape does not look all that useful and it has that weird choil/sharpening thing going on. Blade sticks way out of the handle making it pretty wide... and MT isn't know to have the best CS. Quality is there though.

And yeah, the Godson is not very useful as it's just too pointy. Killer letter opener though. Also a good one to show your friends who aren't knife people but still like them as it's a pretty cool design.

The Strider collaboration is another good one!

I reneged and called Knifecenter about the Protech PT, they said they are taking orders as they have received several requests to get that model back in.
