Just looking for recommendations and the reason behind it. I want a watch with ss band and automatic movement under 200. have looked around at some invictas, seiko, and others... would really love some input thought. I wont be diving anytime soon
I assume you're looking for a mechanical watch that comes with a nice steel bracelet you'll want to wear. "Want to wear" narrows it down considerably.
Seiko SKX779 (Black Monster), SKX781 (Orange Monster), SKX007, and SKX009 are Seiko's entry-level mechanical diver watches. They are at the upper end of your price range and they are very popular with divers and watch collectors.
Orient Mako is a mechanical diver watch that used to sell discounted for $98, which is the entry-level of entry-level. In 2009, Orient became a wholly owned subsidiary of Seiko. Seiko raised prices 15% and then had an "old price" sale, which is when I bought my blue Mako. It is a good, solid watch with a good bracelet. Some Orient watches have weak lume. Mako's lume is not as good as Seiko's, but it is useable and good enough for me.
There are hundreds of Seiko 5 watches. I own six. Most come with folded link bracelets you immediately remove and replace, unless you don't have another $15. The newer models have somewhat better bracelets, but I haven't seen one I wanted to wear.
Seiko 5 Sports are a different story. They are bigger and heftier, with 100 M water resistance. You can hand-wind the newer models and set ("hack") the second hand. They have good bracelets.
Take a look at Poor Man's Watch Corner and Wayne's World of Watches. They have a big selection of Seiko 5, Seiko 5 Sports and Seiko Superior, and they have excellent photography.

Citizen 7 are like Seiko 5 with weaker lume. Crappy folded link bracelets. Citizen 7 Sports are like Seiko 5 Sports, a little cheaper but much harder to find. They are big hefty watches with good bracelets.
