Maybe posting this GAW in the Buck Knives Subforum would have given another outcome.

You know, I started to do just that! Post a link to the GAW in the Buck Knives subforum, that is. But when I realized it is a Manufacturer's subforum, and not just an enthusiast subforum, I wondered what the manufacturer would think about me giving away a knife they are trying to sell?
That may have been a silly thought on my part, and they may have welcomed it as good PR - but I didn't want to take the time to get permission to post in that particular subforum, or take the chance that the manufacturer or their representatives might have not been keen on the idea.
Great giveaway.....
Congrats to the lucky winner.
A giveaway of a similar Buck in years past got me back into the Buck ownership club....with a 110....
I found I really enjoyed the steel, and bought more for my self and my sons.
420HC really is a great steel for using.
It is also much tougher than I thought. Larrin at knifesteelnerds.com did some great edge retention and toughness testing.Agreed! I find that Buck's 420HC to far exceed my usual expectations for "420 steel"... and I love that it's easy to maintain / sharpen.
