Available Integral Criollo in san mai and green/black micarta - $380 shipped DHL (3-4 days to the US)

San mai damascus from 1010/1070 with a 5160 core.
9 3/8" overall length, 5 1/8" edge. 5/32" thickness. Green/black/white micarta handles. Decorative pin (copper pipe and cable) on the butt end. Hand made colored leather sheath.

i very much like your knife. would this work as a knife for the kitchen ? cutting vegetables and thinly slicing meat ? i presume this would rapidly darken the Damascus ? unfortunately i am making myself need a reason or purpose, to buy it. roland

The knife is made from 5160, 1010 and 1070, no cable :)
That cable and copper pipe in the bottom is just a decoration pin I've made, not the exposed tang of the knife.

It would work perfectly for those tasks, many people use criollo knives as kitchen knives (paring or chef knives) as they're very similar.

The damascus would darken indeed, as any other carbon knife. However, being a damascus knife with these steels have a couple of advantages for kitchen use.

1. Since the 1010 has been oxidized and eaten up by the acid etch, it's gonna pretty much stay dark (er) for good.
2. The 1010 is less prone to rusting than the 1070.
3. Even afer years of use, all you have to do to take it back to a pristine condition is pass a 600 grit sandpaper backed over a flat surface on the blade. This will polish the 1010 and leave the 1070 untouched, bringing back the great contrats. It's a 1 minute job (or even less) really.

Proper care for a knife like this would be similar to a regular carbon knife too: washing it up once finished using it, drying it and oiling it very lightly.
