avast malware warning

It's in your PC not BFC. Google it and then run a scan.

Ken is, I suspect, correct. I'm running the top end version of Kaspersky and it would certainly tell me if there was a problem with BF, or anything else for that matter.

.

Not necessarily. Bada is a registered user, hence he's getting more code served to him than we are. Very well could be an infected banner ad. If that's the case then Google, Firefox, etc. will start blocking BFC at some point.

An interesting experiment, if he's using FF, would be to load adblock and noscript and see if it still happens.

.

Since the ads are served randomly, it'd be impossible to tell without knowing exactly which ads were showing at the time (and the code for 'em) and reloading and checking what adblock is blocking until each one shows up in the list. If bada can remember what ads were being displayed when the warning came up, Kevin may be able to test those specific ones and see if there's an issue or we could at least confirm it if it happens again to a RU with the same ad. If, of course, it is an ad causing it.

Very true.

Semi-related. Something....I suspect one of the ad programs...just hijacked my browser and started "running" one of those stupid fake scans to tell me I had all sorts of infections. Tenacious little bugger too, couldn't close it with Alt-F4, had to use Task Manager to shut it down.
I'm fairly sure it was one of the ads because I had been reading forums for about 15 minutes and BF was the only thing open in my browser. The hijack started as soon as I clicked back to User CP.

Get Gold!!!
No ads!!!

Just browsed around for a bit unfiltered and not seeing anything bad. Knife ads, ad council stuff, and a couple from State Farm (which sucks by the way for anyone wondering). But like I said, it's random. I believe the issue of the "scan" thing came up before and it was in fact an ad causing it.

I just had the same exact thing happen to me about 10 minutes ago and it is definitely one of the stinking banner ads redirecting away from bladeforums somehow when you click on the "BACK" button to go back into the subforum to go to a different thread. I run about 6 different Spyware, antivirus. antimalware programs so I know my computer is not the cause. Better check on those banner ads.

Hmmmm... It might be cheaper to pay $10 for a membership and not have to run so many security programs. I don't see the ads and I don't get warnings from my avast. There are other benefits to paying membership, as well.

this may or may not be relevent, but when I was on yesterday, I was having trouble. It kept only partially loading, because it couldn't connect to bids.auctions.com (or something like that); if any ads are for the website that url belongs to.

I think my post was for the benefit of all who surf this site to warn the mods of the possibility of an infected ad. I didn't get the avast warning but I got redirected by the ad.

As to the $10, you should mind your own financial business.

Thanks for the confimation, and I'm sure the mods appreciate the feedback too.

You probably already know this, but for those who don't:

A tip for dealing with things like that or other popup windows like "you have won a prize", etc, ad nauseum. Do NOT click on OK, or CANCEL, or even the close window X. Use Alt-F4 to shut down the window, or if that fails use Task Manager to shut that window (sometimes you have to close the browser entirely). Since whoever it is is useing fairly slimpy methods to get your attention, they may have remapped the functions for any of the buttons you would normally use to interact with a window.

Nod32 is giving me a prompt as well, source is from:

Ads are blocked via ABP but the code still loads as I don't want to block scripts. Seems to be a infected banner, urls above should make it easier to locate and remove from rotation.

if you are seeing banner ads anywhere on the internet, you are doing it wrong.

I think you may have completely missed the point. I understand the need for ads; business is business, but in no way should we be getting viruses or computer attacks from our own web community. We should be able to trust that it is safe to come to this website and browse and share our common interests.

Lately, just every click on BF for me is opening a new background window with some random site. Some of them are malicious and get trapped by my software. So, some form of browser jack has loaded that I haven't been able to get rid of yet.
