Aviator sheath?

I love this knife - but that big leather thing that came with it, as nice as it is, just doesn't work that well for me. I need something narrower than the stock sheath to fit with the other stuff on my belt. I really don't care what it's made of. Is there any reason to go with Kydex/Concealex over leather? I see the Bob Dozier and Tom Wegner contacts in the FAQ at the web site, who else makes good knife sheaths? Any recommendations of what to get and where? I'm not sure where to start looking.

This has come up before, In a post from 5/00 CRK had a reply of...

"We do offer a leather snap style sheath that fits the four inch styles of the Shadow III and/or Aviator. It is similar to the sheath supplied with the Shadow IV shown here www.chrisreeve.com/shadow.html. It can be ordered as a replacement at the time of purchase or aftermarket as an addition at a cost of $35.00."

Since then the price may have gone up a bit though. I have the Shadow III and feel the same way about the pancake sheath. What I found fit it very well was a leather Buck sheath, I think it is for the Vangard series. May want to try a search, at one time I had posted a pic of how it fit.

The kydex ones I found for these knives were in the 50 dollar range.

The Shadow IV and the Shadow III are among my most often used knives. I needed compact sheaths that did not need snaps or retainer straps. I carry my Shadow III in a Johnson Leather boot knife sheath and my Shadow IV in a Gerber sheath. A scan of both knives and sheaths is below. Good luck in your search, you can't go wrong with any sheath as long as you put a Chris Reeve knife in it.

I asked if the Mountaineer I sheath would fit the Aviator on my post of 3/12/2000. CR Moderator wrote: "The word from Bridget is that yes, the Aviator will fit the Mountaineer I sheath. It might be a little tight but it will fit."

Hope this helps.
