AVOID a gentleman named Mike Sandherr or John Sandherr.

The e-mail addresses he uses are: Sandherr1981@yahoo.com and johnsandherr@yahoo.com. On knifeforums.com he is “sandblur”.

I sent Mr. Sandherr $370 via Paypal for a knife, and now (over 2 weeks later) he won’t respond to e-mails and there’s no sign of the knife.

On 6/23 he agreed to a price for the knife via e-mail and said he would ship it ASAP, and then send me a tracking number.
So, I sent Paypal on that same day in the amount we agreed upon.

On 6/25 I e-mailed him, asking if it he had received the Paypal transfer. He said “yes” and thanked me, then said it would ship on 6/26 – and he would send me the tracking info then.

The evening of 6/29 (giving him the opportunity to ship on Monday in case he had missed Friday) I e-mailed once more asking if he had tracking info yet.

He didn’t respond.

On 7/1 I again e-mailed both addresses I had for him asking if there was a problem.

He didn’t respond. Yet, still I wondered if something had happened that was out of his control – and I decided to wait a few more days…

Now, finally, after over 2 weeks, I feel like I’ve been taken. I guess I’m a bit slow.

But I want members to know that dealing with him can be an expensive mistake.

Unfortunately, not much we can do to help you out here. We do appreciate the heads up though. It would be a god idea to avoid using the Paypal gift option since it removes all your protection as a buyer. Gift implies you are giving someone something without expectation of anything in return. When you literally buy something, you need to use the goods option. It's safer to use common sense than to pay the fees that someone else is responsible for.

We have people on here too that insist on giving money away to total strangers for free. I have no ide what goes through their minds to be quite honest. THe rules here are very clear on the paypal issues:

Warning: You as a buyer are responsible for using Paypal as it was intended, according to their Terms of Service. Using the "Gift" option revokes any buyer protection you may have if something goes wrong and makes it easier to get scammed. Be smart and protect yourself, if you use gift and get scammed don't come crying to us about it as you've already been advised.
