I don't even know what to say about this. Must see it for yourself!

Saw that this morning via boingboing. We've all seen when someone comes up with some "super" technique and then can't deliver, or someone discounts something because they couldn't make it work in a few weeks or months. This guy is the real deal, and is really honest about how long its taken to get there. I like that he admits that it is insanely hard work and there is a reason why it very quickly got forgotten. I think it puts a few things into perspective, and I think its highly likely that the best archers of old were as good or better. He's the six-gun quick draw of archery, and very nearly as fast. I would like to know what sort of poundage range he is working with there, from the looks of things they weren't super heavy, but were not little kids bows either.

Very impressive video. Similar to horse bow (sometimes called Mongol) archers. Hungarian archers shoot with the arrow on the outside edge of the bow and pull the string with the crook of their thumbs. They use a thumb ring to accomplish this.
I think Lars has taken it to a new level. Nice video.

I just received my first bow this Christmas. Watching this makes me want to go shoot even more.

I also saw something about Mongol archers with a similar technique. I think they held their arrows in their bow hand.

So glad you posted that. I just bought a compound bow and have been immersed in all things archery for two months, so perfect timing.

He is incredible. Splitting an incoming arrow? Catching one then firing it back within a second or so?

Are you kidding me?

Howard Hill was a hell of a shot and seemed to prefer redheads.

I had a Howard Hill Big 5 longbow many years ago. The hand shock was severe no matter how I tweaked the brace height.

Lars is obviously an exceptional archer, but I would like to see him do this stuff live on Impossible Shots. He's doing things that Byron Ferguson couldn't dream about.
Of course, Byron is an old man and not that athletic. The claim of 3 arrows in 6/10 of a second??? That would rival some fast handgun shooters.

Sorry, there is some hanky-panky in that video.

Are you suggesting "hanky-panky" because of his speed shooting—or other parts of the video?

Both. Hey! It's a youtube video. ;)

RE: catching an arrow. I have seen a live performance of a Shaolin monk catching an arrow. He caught the arrow, but not on the 1st try...or the 2nd. He did on the 3rd try.

Here's a cool youtube video. These guys are good, but how much do we not see? I have watched Impossible Shots on the Outdoor channel and they show
the shots that miss. You rarely see that on youtube.

One guy shoots a ballon at 301 yards. (4:53) How many times did he try before he got it?

I guess I never assumed he hit 100%. I assumed all along that I was watching was a "best of" series with the misses edited out. As for the claimed speed at which he can shoot, surely there are competition records to settle the matter one way or another. If the claimed speed was false, surely someone with access to those records would step up to call him on it. Googling his name leads to the above video over and over again. There are skeptics on Reddit, though.

I liked this thread a whole lot better before you got involved and ruined my fantasies. :)

Sorry. :( It's just that this sort of thing is faked a lot on youtube. There is even a TV show about real vs fake videos on youtube.

Yes, I realize there's fakery on youtube. You're not suggesting this video is a hoax, though—are you? Or that editing out misses (however occasional or not they may be) rises to the level of fakery?

I watched the video several times. There is a lot of editing. I don't care how good you are, you are not going to perform 100% all the time. Some of what he allegedly does is absolute BS.
Shoot and split at arrow out of the air? On the 1st try? Maybe the 1000th try. Even at slow motion you can't really see what happened. At 5:35 he supposedly shoots and splits and arrow
out of the air. Something falls on the floor next to him. He picks up two things which we are supposed to believe are two halves of an arrow. Can you see what they are? I can't. It
looks like two sticks to me. Take a look at 5:25 and again at 5:35. Notice anything?

As I said in my 1st post, I am not discounting his skill, but there is a lot of BS in this video.

Let me know when he can do this. :D
