Awesome River Hike

Thanks for all the comments everyone. I'll be sure and post more pics from future hikes. For the Michigan folks... it's a spot along the Huron River west of Ann Arbor. Not much in the way of established trails, but plenty of quality bushwacking. This is definitely the best season to explore. I've been through there before in the summer and never even saw the mill ruins. Some sections of the river are state land, some are private and some are Metropark or county property. There is lots of good bass and trout fishing at various spots along the 110 mile length. It's a great canoe/kayak river. I've been able to paddle the whole thing on several occasions. I'm really lucky to have this so close to home. :D

Calebklyne... it's a Filson field bag. An X-mas gift from Mrs. jds1.

August West... that IS a strange coincidence. Nice kit. :D

kgd... I couldn't resist my beaver made seat for a fire spot. I'll check out those shelter spots soon though. ;)

Got the whole Jeremiah Johnson look to that spot.

I love the quiet of being in the woods after a good snow or during a heavy fog.

Jeff,
I spent almost 30 years in that area.Is that the old mill on Geddes rd by Dixboro rd? Me and my wife use to canoe from gallop park all the time and fish right there at the dixboro dam. Thanks for the memories.

Hey Mike, glad you enjoyed the photos. This area is actually further west (up river) from Dixboro, closer to Dexter. You would be happy to see the spot you remember these days. They put in a very nice trail along the river all the way from Dixboro Dam to the mill on Geddes. The mill has been restored too.
