Just recently got a mini Ritter m390 and want to upgrade the scales. But I can't decide on the cheaper but nice looking awt, or the more pricey ti Wilkins. Any opinions who've either or both. Prefer metal so not real interested n g10.

If you prefer metal then why not the AWT? Wilkins are amazing but last I checked they are pricey.

I guess just Leary of coated metals that don't wear well, not that they wouldn't. Anyone carried awt scales for a while and have any input on wear?

I have the AWT scales on a full sized Grip and I find them to be awesome. Makes the knife feel much more substantial. Quite a bit heavier but, in my opinion, it's not too heavy. The fitment of the sub-frame into the scales is perfect. No wiggle. No rattle. The blade centers exactly the same as the Benchmade scales. The coating on the scales is some tough stuff. I have FDE scales with the gun metal back spacer. I've only had them for about 2 weeks now but I've EDC'd it every day and put it through the daily chores. No marks on the scales at all. I really like the AWT scales. I'd like to get a set of Wilkins as well but they're not in the budget right now.

I've never tried awt scales, as I don't like aluminum scales at all, but I do have around 8 sets of Wilkins and for me there is no better scale out there (DOAT) comes in a close second.. but the way Wilkins fits my hand and makes the mini feel like a perfect knife.. it's hard to go wrong.. but I don't think either choice is a bad choice as long as you have a benchmade your good to go!!

I'm not a fan of aluminum scales on anything either. The AWT are too blocky for my taste. Check out igorded here on the forums, he has a running thread with his work in it. For a very reasonable amount of money he can make you some awesome G10, CF or Micarta scales to your specifications. DOAT, Death Of All Things, is also another great member here that does some very nice work.

Go for the AWT scales. The fit n finish is fantastic. They add just the right amount of weight too. The titanium Wilkins scales are great but I remember the knife ending up being way to handle heavy. If I were to get a Wilkins it would be a G10/G11 in swimming pool green.

I think I'm convinced to go with awts, thanks for all input. Now to decide on color, what do think about the camo ones?

I have the plain black but I do really like the gun metal color. The Hive pattern scales look pretty interesting as well.
The camo looks alright in the pics but Im not sure how'd they turn out up close.

I've never had Wilkins scales but I have two sets of AWT scales. I have a standard dark bronze set on a full size Grip which really makes the knife a lot more substantial. I've had those scales on for a little over a year now and they were a blem set that I picked up at a considerable discount. They've worn a little, but only as to be expected of any kind of coating. Whatever AWT uses is really tough and I actually like the worn look a little better.

My other set of AWT are some of their new sandblasted Hive Pattern for a Mini Grip. They're sitting beside my standard Mini Grip waiting for me to have time to install them. I can't wait to see what the Hive scales feel like on the Mini.

If you're on the fence just buy a set of blems from AWT and you're not investing as much to try them out.

I have the AWT scales and they are amazing. Also excellent customer service. They are also a Christian company so that is a plus in my book.

I think you will be happy with the AWT. I considered them, and will probably get a pair in the future. I ended up going with Igorded, they are awesome. Wilkins were just too darn expensive.
