That's interesting. It's definitely on both sides. The ax is not hung correctly. That looks similar to the union label ( the mark left by a milled hammer face).
Do you have pics of the entire axe head?
Lacking a poll it's pretty common for them DBL bits to have the eyes beat up on all manner of things too. That's interesting. It's definitely on both sides. The ax is not hung correctly.
This is a relatively modern 1980's+ Michigan pattern, and there's really no telling who made it or where.
Nice looking axe. Looks like a Michigan pattern. Looks to be in decent shape. Does it have ridges in the eye? Some unmarked axes do, and that can give an idea of a couple or three different manufacturers. I have a couple of Kelly/True Temper that look very similar to that with eye ridges in one of them. They can come in different numbers and configurations. 3,4,5,6 ridges set symmetrically or non-symmetrical in pattern. Good luck on your info hunting.
What kind of Belknap did you purchase? Thanks all. I will check for the ridges. I bought it to use, so if it holds an edge I'll be happy. I bought a bluegrass the same day.
Around here we call that a scab label. That looks similar to the union label ( the mark left by a milled hammer face).
Never mind. Can't upload pic. Going to start new thread about a possible unmarked Granfors double bit I've had for sometime.
