Ax Profile to Help Maximize

No, my Council ax (the red one) is under 6 lb. flat head and it has flat cheeks. V shaped to the poll. DM

This morning I gave this Hults a test drive on 6 logs that needed splitting. They are 6-8" in diameter and this ax handled them better with this
slimmer V grind than the before with the convex grind. DM

I know ax men on here will at times use a lighter ax to split with. But this 4 lb. is at my lower end limit to use as a spliting ax on my Emory oak. Still, I improved it's performance so it can be used with greater effectiveness on any chopping task. Now,
you have the understanding on how to improve your ax too. Good luck & thanks. DM

Does the Council axe have a convex / high centerline shape? I didn't realize that Council axes were still convex.

I have a "newer" (probably 90s +/- ??) Barco "kelly perfect" jersey that has flat sides - not convex, like the old ones.

I've got quite a few Red Council Jerseys, stamped anywhere from 2011-2016. They have a slightly high centerline. Not as pronounced as many older axes, but enough you can see it.

I'm not sure about the full-sized Daytons, but the boy's axe is flat-cheeked. The Jersey, on the other hand, has a moderate high centerline.

I examined my Council closer: it has slight cheeks starting 1" back from the edge. Then back to a hollowed out space until the front of the eye where it starts to widen out to 1 3/8". This runs to the poll. It is stamped 18. DM

The flat head fire axe has a pronounced high centerline like a vintage axe. It's one of the features that drew me to buying one. The handles are pretty good on them, too.

Yes,^ it comes with an aluminum wedge. I have an ax with a rounded poll on it like yours. A Wards Master Quality 3 1/2 lb.. My best felling and limb cutting ax. DM
