I still need to put another coat of finish on the little ax. The head was forged from another piece of the landing gear. Heads just over 5" with a 2 1/2" cutting edge. Handle is 14" out of curly maple.

Love that curly maple Ray I like that shape of the handle too..
another nice job..

Ray did you get my measage about the spike hawk , just wondering if the guy contacted you?

These axes have a nice style to 'em, Ray. I like that swell uphandle for a close grip.

Are you enjoying making the axes again?

So would that be considered an plain etched finish, or mustard finish? Very sweet piece, no doubt.

I like the steel pattern. I'm not sure how you do it, but the ax you made for me has the same look. Very interesting. It's good seeing you tackling these again Raymond, you've got away from them for a bit.
Great work here!

Great Job on the second one to Ray. Love the curly maple and the shape. How do finish your curly maple?

Stuart, I've been using tongue oil on this one. If I'm wanting more shine I'll go with the tongue oil. Normally I'll switch between this and Watco.

Fitzo, I have been enjoying the switch to axes but think I need a break from my shop more than anything else. Ray's becoming a dull boy.

Such a beautiful killing thing!!! :D
Man I love the axes and hawks you smithies make! If I ever get a chance to forge some steel that's what I want to make. I can't imagine being able to make one of them!!!
