Axe and knife?

I see someone had some free time. But honestly I'd be crazy enough to do it just to prove that you can take down a tree with a blade below 7 inches

I carry a gransfors bruks wildlife hatchet, RC-4 and supreme chainsaw when camping. Thinking of replacing the RC-4 with either an izula or esee-3. Need something with a thinner blade.

The problem i find with the small forest axe is 90% of the time you are using it with 1 hand, which just gets uncomfortable.

Vaughan mini hatchet doing it's thing. Being able to make nice controlled swings is where the hatchet excels.

Man that picture makes me miss home. Back to topic, I give another vote to the hawk. It's a grate peace of kit, along with a folding saw and a good knife your gtg. I'm also guilty of carrying more edged tools then three people need lol. So I may not be the best person to take advice from wen it comes to packing light.

My regular backpacking "sharps" collection.

...although a SvenSaw has started tagging along a lot of the time...

Man I grew up using axes. Oddly I was taught how to use them before anyone ever game me a knife. Just watch where you're swinging and it's all gonna be good.

You Can't go wrong with a 10(ish) inch blade. My BWM absolutely takes trees apart, and fits nicely in a backpack. A really great knife of that size for under 50 bucks is the Condor Kumunga. Not as beefy as the BWM or Jungalas but for a fraction of the price it is an excellent knife that could do a lot of the same things as a hatchet.
