Today was axe day on the ole' house sale/estate sale circuit, and a very good day it was.
1. All metal hand axe. 5.5" handle consisting of 3.75" of alternating white aluminum) and black metal washers and a white metal butt. 4.9" of I-beam between handle and head marked "WESTERN CUTLERY CO. BOLDER COLORADO, U.S.A." head and I-beam painted black.
2. Girl Scout axe ordered in March, 1941.
8.75" wood handle with medium green finish.
Head 4 3/8" long x apx. 2" high x 1.08" thick at pole. Cutting edge about 2.5" Marked with "PLUMB" in rectangle above Girl Scout symbol. Covered with a pale green varnish? paint?
Medium green box marked "HAND AXE WITH SHEATH 13-264."
Cute as a bug.
It seems that the ladies that run these sales know quite a bit about some things but quite little about tool-type stuff.
Comments about these two pieces invited.
