Axe display / storage racks.

I made this to store my axes that I am working on in my garage. It was made from one 8 foot 1"x12" and two 8 foot 1"x4" and one 8 foot closet rail. Total cost about $20. I made the rails 3 1/2" apart on center to hold the axes. The larger axes have to be cocked sideways a little but it's not too big for the hatchets. I used a portable jigsaw to cut the curved parts. The side boards were screwed and glued into cut mortises in the 1x12 then I covered the screws with filler. I never painted or surface finished it other than some sanding of the filler and board ends.

I drilled holes in the rails on the inside edge and used nails to hold them in place. They could be glued, but I wanted to be able to remove the rails for some reason. The extra hole above helps me to move the whole rack.

Thanks for the photos. That's exactly what I was looking for. It's portable and holds a lot of axes. I have a lot of double bits. I will have one similar very soon. I'm trying to decide whether to make that design from wood or from galvanized pipe. That's an awesome design.

I also like the extra hole above the axes. You could lock them in if needed.

Thanks bbforstr I didn't think of that, the single hole started out as a mistake. I got in a rush and forgot I needed two holes, not one. Duh.
