Hit a local flea market this week and picked up 5 axes and 2 hammers. No axe was more than $15. The hammers were $3. One is an old plumb - really like the pattern.

the family:

Collins Legitimus (I call this one Dr. Jekyll - one side is nice/ the top half is pitted). Still in good shape.

I believe this one is a True Temper Kelly Woodslasher (it has the ribs in the eye). Jersey:

Kelly Woodslasher:

an earlier? Collins Legitimus:

An a JP Kelly Vulcan axe that I already posted pics of - the eye is in rough shape but she's a beauty.

Cheers.

nice work! i wish i could come across sales like that!
there is a huge flea market they have once a year over memorial day weekend (just found out about it from a guy that runs an old pawn shop i go to). its about 4 hours from me, but he says that it would be worth it to go over there (he collects axes too). so the wife and i are going to head over there this year and hopefully find some nice axes/heads.
the pawn shop fellow says he always finds nice axes over there. i guess sellers from all over the northwest come with truck loads of tools and such...
im pretty excited about it... who knows, we may even camp and stay the night if the pickins' are good :D

Do tell! Where? When?

Wow. Nice score on that Jersey. I'd probably cry a little bit if I saw a Jersey at one of the flea markets near me. I'll be hittin' the markets every weekend and I'll be hard pressed to find anything that cool. The Vulcan is really sweet too!

Nice scores. You guys are in dangerous waters though now, trying to take over my precious flea markets.

Wow, the jersey looks in really good shape, and a Kelly on top of it. Wish I could find deals like that.

Finally wrestled with unhanging this Collins Legitimus last night. Drilling, hammering, getting swedges stuck in the eye temporarily. Huge metal wedge.

Took the angle grinder / sander to it as well. Forgive the photo edit but this one has a real nice blue patina on it. I squared off and champfered (love that word) the poll as well. This one cost me $12 (got him down from $20).

Tru-Test....who made them I wonder,

I think they were True Value Hardware's house brand. No idea who made it for them, though. They were like Sears, hiring out work to other major manufacturers and putting their own brand name on the products.

Sent the TT jersey axe head to moosecreektrails this week. For a fellow trailworker, I sold it to him at cost - he also sent me these:

Love having the actual manuals not just the online printouts.
