Axe insanity

My take on the subject...worth all of about .02 btw.

I own (2) Plumb "Victory" Double Bit Axes and they're Cruiser weights. Both appear unmolested, no dings, mushrooms, chips and both have clear maker's marks. I hung one on a 30" Straight Hickory and the other on a 30" Octagon Hickory (courtesy of House Handle which I cannot say enough good things about...thank you again Meagan  )

Now, I'm a very long way from being wealthy so if someone does offer $300 a piece then I would have to be honest and say "Sorry, no deal"

I really enjoy them both that much.

Theres a Plumb Jet wing? Never heard of it up for $280 is NOS and was just posted today I believe. Looks awesome but dang thats gonna go high if its $280 already.

Unfortunately, this absurdity makes it hard on guys like me looking for a little cruiser. I just want a little hunk of rust to clean up, sharpen, and hang. But even the little hunks of rust are going for a premium if they measure 8.5" in length.

Keep watching. Good deals are available. I scored a Connie for less than $30. It was hung upside down. I don't think anybody recognized it for what it was. Here it is after I removed the haft.

I seem to have some luck bagging axes around here (milwaukee area). A 3+lb norlund single bit for under $10, A couple 3.5lb TTFE Kelly works double bits for $5 and $4 respectively. I'd say I do fine for the most part. But it's those little DB cruisers I can't seem to find. This area seems to be swimming in the True Temper Flint Edge axes, so I'm hoping to stumble across one eventually.

All axe prices are up now on the bay. I think about axes I sold in the past few years and what they would fetch today. But then I recall that I still tripled my money and flipped that axe money several times in the interim. No regrets.

I agree. Prices are kind of high right now. It seems kind of seasonal though. Maybe people are looking at big piles of firewood, wondering how they will split it. Considering the shipped cost of a new Council is near $80, it's no wonder people are looking at quality vintage tools. None of the newer axes I have hold a candle to the vintage TT axes. I just wish people would drive up the price of Chinese axes. China would love it.

Later

Brent.
