  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Axe Modification - Does this make sense?

If you're only using it for training wheels for the occasional miss I'd use the one bit of inner tube but stick a dirty great lump of Blu-Tack under it.

I think the tape was used to hold a split handle together. I've seen wire used in a similar manner. Multiple layers of inner tube might work to cushion overstrikes, but it isn't very aesthetically appealing. The next step is to get a fiberglass ot plastic handle. :barf:

I'm just going to use my axe as it comes and then replace the handle when I mess it up badly enough. It's just an axe handle. :)

My axe when training people is always my estwing with a wedge sharpened top of the shaft. No worries about overswing, and it is dull enough to not cut if grabbed- and I have chopped smaller rounds with the shaft alone to test it.

I would think that the inner tube would make a good base layer for jute or paracord wrap- the base would help the tougher outer layer stay in place and give a bit of cushioning upon impact.
