Yep, square_peg, double bitters are rarely seen in Oz as a timber tool. Don't know why. We had no shortage of North Americans coming over for the gold rushes in the last half of the 1800s so they would have been known about.

That's right hacked, the eye is ribbed. I gather that dates the axe to no older than 1963 when the patent was granted.

Yes, the paint makes for a bit of sparkle but it doesn't last beyound the first log. Chemical blacking would be better but it seems DIY kits don't work that well.
