Axe vs knife help

Matter of perspective. I have met a lot of outdoorsman(even professional outdoorsman) who say that anything more than a SAK is a sign of a novice. You, I, and most everyone on this board would fall into that category. ;)

Thank you. There are rational, practical and experienced people on here! There are increasingly all manner of fashionable and ill-suited stuff promoted for outdoor recreational (survival?) use but a simple SAK can and will do darn near anything you ask of it. I'd throw away my rifle, Swede saw and axe long before I relinquished my SAK Spartan. It hasn't taken me 50 years to appreciate that either!

I'm mostly going to compare them as a general tools and not as a unique product to see what can chop better, carve etc. But i appreciate your comment and see what you mean, it isn't exactly fair to compare an axe to a thin machete, but do you think something like a cold steel all terrain chopper would be a slighty better choice?
