Hi. I was asked to make axes by a foreign retailer. I have zero experience with axe making and I don't use axe so my knowledge of it is limited. I am interested in making them though. I'm a stock removal guy so my tools are limited to that purpose. I don't really know where to start except that I could possibly make a small full tang axe. Not sure about the steel either. 5160? 52100? Any stainless? N690? What hardness? How thick the steel should be? So many questions. But for now I need to know what kind of axes I can make. Any input will be appreciated. Thanks.

I have no experience yet in making knives much less axes.( I think that will change soon though) But I do have many years of experience as a moldmaker, tool and die, machinist. I do not know how many they want to purchase at a time, or at what price point. But it sounds like something a perfect job to have all the blanks cut on a water jet to save you time. I also would make sure they pay you before they get the merchandise. Sounds like a cool opportunity for you. Let us know how it turns out.
