Axes with eye ridges....

Not exactly eye ridges but another eye feature to improve the hang. This rafting axe has a wider ring around the top of the eye. It's clearly forged into the eye intentionally.

I think the idea is that the wedge will force the tongue into this ring to prevent the axe from coming off - much like we do with the haft protruding 1/4" above the head but without the need for a protruding haft. The head wiggled a lot so I assumed it would come off easy with the wedge removed. Not so! That expanded tongue held onto that ring.

This axe came with what I believe is the original haft which has 'Forest King' label. The haft and aluminum wedge both have the factory light blue paint on them. I will rehang it on the original haft with a wood wedge and gift it to a buddy.

That's quite interesting, I'm pretty sure I would have assumed it to be a defect maybe seeing a benefit to it but still not thinking it could be intentional.

This is giving me the idea to maybe add such a feature to the eye of the next tool I hang.
