I have been carring one for the past 3 days and I really like mine. I have the plan edge model. I know a lot of people were saying that this knife would be there idea of the perfect knife so I was wondering how many people really bought one so far and what everyone who has thinks of it.

One Stop Knife Shop has them for 141.99 dollars. I'm not sure if they have them in stock or not, though.

That's just the advertised price, they have to put that up so they can get the knives before other online vendors. Go ahead, 'haggle' with a cheaper price you can find somewhere else. Ohhh, mine is so sweeeeet. :D

I like mine. It's a plainedge also. Everything that the original liner locks offered with an improved lock. I like D2 alot, so that's an added bonus. Looks like Benchmade has been listening to the consumers as they put a much better edge on these than I have seen on some of their recent knives. I haven't used it for any tough tasks yet. It seems a little heavier than the original AFCK's and feels a bit more rigid in the handle. The oval hole works fine, but the round Spydie hole would have been better in my opinion. Some of the forumites dislike the blade coating, but all 3 of my liner lock AFCK's are coated and I don't dislike it at all. All in all a very nice improvement on an already proven handle shape and blade. Like the original this is a pretty big knife, I hope Benchmade makes the mini version as well.

does the plastic back spacer run father up the handle, like on the 710 or is it just at the base like the liner lock AFCK?

There is no such thing as an Axis Lock AFCK. BM has a new model out that, to the uneducated eye, may look like an AFCK with an Axis Lock. However, the true AFCK aficionado quickly realizes that this new knife is tip-up carry. A proper AFCK is tip-down, the way God intended conventional folding knives to be carried.

I remain very hopeful that BM will shortly offer an Axis Lock AFCK.

There is a radical new surgery that can turn the AXIS Lock AFCK look alike into an AFCK AXIS Lock. True, it wouldn't have been born with the clip in the proper position and there would still be the scars from the old clip attachment point, but you will probably be happy with the results.

I've been looking around, but I haven't found them anywhere else. Can someone spare me a tip?

I got mine from Joe at American Heritage Sports. I think that the web address for his shop is americanheritagesports.com. If that dosen't work his e-mail address is heritage@chartermi.net. He is a very nice guy, I like to do business with him and I think that you all will too.

Thanks for the pointer and the recommendation! I sent him an email just now.

I've got one on the way. I love the AFCK and I love the Axis lock. I HATE BT2 :barf: Not sure how that will effect my like or dislike of the knife. I wish they had offered it in a satin finish.

Shootist16: Ha-ha-ha-haaa, you caved in! :)

Don't worry. You will be glad you did.

The 806BT is like the old AFCK except stronger and more reliable.

It will be interesting to try to compare the D-2 to the M-2 blades for edge durability.

Cheers.

I am seriously considering sending it off to be coated in boron carbide.

My Axis AFCK won't be here 'til tomorrow:(
edit: Scratch that! I had no sooner entered this response than the doorbell rang! It is here, and I am happy! I love the way it feels with the clip on the "right" end:) Wonder how many times I'll try disengaging the liner lock before realizing it's an Axis? 6 for 6 going for the liner so far, even though I'm looking at it, knowing it's an Axis lock:rolleyes: Old habits die hard.

A note on the boron carbide coating.
If you send them a coated blade, the blade may have to be blasted, and the edge will be ruined, and then that edge will be coated...I have no idea how hard it is to grind off the coating since my blades still haven't gotten back from being coated, so I don't know how much that really matters.
They apparently have some kind of stripping solution that will take a coating off, also. When I got in touch to check on my knives since I hadn't heard anything for a while, I was told that my 710HS's blade had been sitting in this solution for a week:confused:
My blades should be back sometime this week.

I look forward to the knife, but not crazy about the coating. A properly heated treated D2 blade shouldn't need to be coated. I have a Dozier folding hunter in D2 that has no probs at all.

I have had mine for a couple of weeks now. It was the first to come in at The Safe and Knife Company, my local brick and mortar store. I have not opened any 55 gallon drums with it, nor have I taken it on a jungle survival test. It has been my daily carry knife for every day that I have had it. I love it! It has replaced the 710 as my favorite EDC knife.I would have rather had BC1 coating over BT2, but you can't have everything. If it starts wearing off, I'll have it coated in BC1.
The D2 steel is a good performer and since I use Tuf Cloth often, I am confident the edge will stay rust free. Unlike Chuck, I prefer the tip-up carry. There is plenty of resistence to premature blade opening, which is the real concern about tip-up carry. I can draw tip-up faster than tip down because I do not have to reposition my hand.
In short, it is a winner!

I think the Axis lock should avoid most of the normal worries about tip-up carry. I will admit, however, to being "nipped" once by my tip-up BM 722. Mostly my own fault.
