Axis lock on a multi-tool

I have never handled the 710, but the axis lock seems to be similar to the SAF-T lock on Gerber multi-pliers. I know it is a metal plate instead of a bar on the gerber, but other than that isn't it quite similar? How is the lock strength on a Gerber?
