"Axis lock" style question: broken springs?

If you break a spring, it's going to be sluggish at first. I would say you will be more likely to slam the blade shut on my knuckle fidgeting/fanning it open than for the omega spring to break and cause it to fail. Most Axis locks fail due to people spine whacking them than the spring breaking. Two springs give you redundancy. If you are open to an automatic, the Adamas line of that flavor has a sliding safety that keeps it from opening in your pocket (please use it. I found out the $1000 copay way 9 stiches later that it is a good idea). That same safety can be used to lock the crossbar forward. It doesn't come into play with the omegas at all either, so if one or both fail, it is a reasonable back up.

Same with Barrage. With the lock slid forward it has to be one of the strongest knife locks there is and there are videos out there showing that.

springs breaking aren't going to stop me from ordering a new custom Mini Grip with an M4
👍
yes after market springs are easily obtainable now .
I bought a packet of them as soon as I saw them , years ago now .
Never used one . Yet . Knock on wood .

M4 FOR EVER !

Unless you're putting enough force on the knife in the direction of closing the knife, I'd file it under the same risk category of getting struck by lightning.
'course there was that one guy , recently , (seems like it was in my state ; Colorado (you know, where that old scientist dude Tesla came to play with lightning )) he got struck twice in one day . . . in his truck . . . I'm just saying . . .

I find this interesting, in several months I’ve replaced about 3 sets, and in all three they have both been broken, I was doing work on other’s knives so I don’t know how they were used but likely lots of fidgeting. I personally have never had even one go out on my knives so🤷 It’s relatively easy to do them yourself or send them into benchmade and they will service it for free

I didn't fidget with mine, but I opened it several times a day to use it. Broke after a few years of use. It's a thin spring that won't last forever.
