Axis lock test

Joe
Any update on your axis lock? So far my new 710 is great. Any more on the lock failure?

What? Another knife? Don't you have enough of those things already?
How many does one person need?

Lock Failure:

I just got the regular production ones in and it seems that they have now stiffer omega springs installed! It is now less likely to unlock them by accident!

Jim,

I haven't heard anything else about any accidental unlocking on an Axis, and I haven't been able to simulate that myself. With a little practice, I've become comfortable sharpening the Axis. As a result, I now think of it as maybe the best production knife made. It's really impressed me in every role I've tried it in!

Joe,
I'm beginning to feel the same way as you; that I just can't find a better knife. Cheaper, that I may knock around more, but not better.

I can't remember where, if at all, I posted that I got the sharpmaker in and went to work on my 710. But, I did, and it worked great. I had already done a lot of thinning on the blade, except in the recurve area. I proceeded to thin the recurve area, then sharpen. The sharpmaker really made it pretty easy, and it is pretty scary how sharp it is now.

I LOVE it.

Anthony Lombardo mentioned in a post somewhere in these forums that he has heard of several accidental closures of the Axis Lock. Anthony, if you read this, would you care to elaborate?

David Rock

Yes, Mr. Lombardo, please elaborate, if you would. I would like to know what to look out for, as I can't figure out how to make it close accidentally myself. Which means, I trust it A LOT, and if it ever does close accidentally, I'm gonna be ... well, kut

I really appreciate these tests that Joe does. Although I won't duplicate them on my own knives, I've made decisions on whether or not to put a particular knife on The List more than once due to Joe's tests. I realize one person's experiences are not everyone's. But it's great to know there are others out there testing and sharing their knowledge. Sorry, this is probably coming in real late. Jim
