Axis Lock ??

I had the opportunity to handle a Pat Crawford Rolling Lock Carnivore at a knife show and it was a quantum leap smoother than the Rekat version..I don't know if that translates into more reliability, but I would strongly suspect it does.

The Axis lock has proved, IMHO, to be very safe and reliable. I did, however, have a 722 open in my pocket with the sheading of some of that precious red stuff, but my own ineptitude was probably the main cause.

Thanks for the tip, Rockspyder,

I will have to check out that TSEK as an alternative to the AFCK. I would certainly prefer a knife with a utilitarian name verses one called a "Combat Knife". What has interested me in the AFCK is the handle with the ample finger groove. Since the TSEK has the same handle but a more "politically correct" name, it just might be the one to get.

Glad I could help (if it turns out that it did help).

Always happy to spread the word on new axis locks. Big Benchmade fan here. And Spyderco. And Camillus. And Buck. ad infinitum :D

There is nothing wrong or politically incorrect with AFCK. One of this abbreviation versions (by BENCHMADE) was Advanced Folding Camping Knife, you can find it in 1999 Product Catalog.

Once James Mattis saw AFCK photo with some carrots in background (I don't remember the source, sorry) and proposed another peaceful abbreviation - Advanced Folding Carrot Knife. As well as new edge retention test - how many carrots can one cut in half before his (or her) knife will loss shaving sharpness.

However for carrot cutting I prefer SPYDERCO Military due to its fully flat grind :)

Hello Mr. Mitin,

I just had a look at the Benchmade online catalog, and they do not even give the full name for the AFCK.

Then I did a quick check of some internet retailers and found this:

The newly-redesigned Advanced Folding Combat Knife

This was in an ad for the 804 AFCK II version.

I have seen the TSEK described as "Tactical Safety Equipment Knife". It would be nice if Benchmade would drop the "Tactical" part, but I still think overall this name is less suggestive of combat than that of the AFCK - unless I can get one with "Advanced Folding Carrot Knife" engraved on the blade.

Yeah .... I know what you mean.
It really ticks me off that my target pistol isn't rollmarked
"Remote Control Drill" somewhere on the barrel.

It is a practice by liberal prosecutors/attorneys to try to paint someone who acted in self-defense as "someone looking for a fight" as evidenced by the type of weapon they use. They will use this to try to claim you acted unnecessarily or with excessive force. I wouldn't want to have to argue in court why I was carrying a "Combat Knife".

I have given serious consideration to ordering a custom fighter and asking the maker to enscribe some innocent, utilitarian name on it. Since I live in the South, one idea is "Kudzu Kutter".

W.T.,

If I hurt your feelings, I'm sorry. However .... "political correctness" amounts to succumbing to deceptive and basically dishonest word games, imo, and it sticks in my craw. I find it depressing to see decent folks descending that slippery slope.

But .... if you don't see it that way, I've found your knife. Its called a "pocket hobbit", I believe. Nothing but warm and fuzzy.

I see your point. I feel somewhat the same about comments members have made, saying it is better to flee an attacker or hand over your wallet. At some point you have to stand on your principles, and it can be difficult to choose where one should make that stand.

As for dishonest word games, I view it as turning the liberals' own weapon against them. But again, you have a good point based on principle, and I wouldn't argue against it.
