I just receiced a new BM 525. It is hard to unlock. Is this, because it is new? Or do I need to send it back? It opens real easy.

I've never heard of the axis lock being hard to disengage. Maybe try the pencil trick (shade the tang with lead from a pencil)?

I have several Cold Steel Recon 1s and I don't have problems either way. Opening, of course, is the important point. Is it that you have to apply pressure to both sides of the switch to get it to close? (The old Recons were easy to close, but the newer ones are a bit stiff.) I suspect it will loosen in time.

I've seen a couple of Axis locks that when brand new were a little stiff to disengage, but they all got better with use.

My mini grip was a little stiff at first but now its as smooth as silk.

Sometimes it can be the way you are sliding it too. Try using both studs to pull it back until you get used to it.

I always put a little Tuff Glide around the mechanism through the hole when I clean the knife. Works well.

You can adjust it with a torx-driver. I had to losen the screw on my new Mini Griptilian. Just a little turn to the left will do it.
