AZ Legislature Passes Nation's First Knife Preemption Law

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who provided support to Knife Rights for this successful legislative effort. This legislation in another example, just like our successful Arizona Knife Law Preemption Bill, of what can be accomplished when you have a well-conceived legislative plan and combine a passionate and effective legislator; a professional lobbying effort organized and financed by Knife Rights and organized, hard-working and involved citizen support.

Rep. Jenn Coffey who sponsored this legislation, will be honored with Knife Rights' Freedom's Edge award at Knife Rights' Sharper Future™ Awards Breakfast at BLADE Show in Atlanta on June 5th (see http://bit.ly/a6msak if you'd like to join us).

This bill removed restrictions on switchblades, dirks, daggers and stilettos in Hew Hampshire and essentially removed all restrictions on knives in New Hampshire state law. New Hampshire now has no knife laws which stop law abiding citizens from buying, selling, owning, carrying, possessing, transporting, collecting, or lawfully using any type of knife. This is the first complete repeal of a state's knife restrictions ever and Knife Rights is honored to have been actively involved in getting this passed, via testimony to the legislative committees, engaging a lobbyist who worked effectively with the legislators to solve the many issues that arose and helping to organize citizen support.

NH Union Leader Front Page Headline reads: "Switchblade knives now legal in NH..." Read entire article: http://bit.ly/asx0GM

Knife Rights is hopeful that the example provided by New Hampshire will be followed by other states. However, it doesn't just happen. In order to repeal irrational restrictions on switchblades and other knives, it takes funding and people willing to work hard to effect change. We cannot do it without your support. TN preempts most all weapons laws also. About the only ones that allowed to stand are some that prohibit handgun carry in municipal parks, if they were on the books before a certain day in 1986.

Then again, we're far from having constitutional carry in any sense, like AZ.

Tennessee does NOT have knife law preemption.

Ya know, you're right. TCA 39-17-1314 addresses preemption of firearms/ammo only. I had remembered it as addressing "weapons" in general.

Mea culpa for the wrong assertion.
