Aztec Cleaver, Woodsman Pal or CS Machete

I am looking for a reasonably priced chopper. I have a Gerber Gator hatchet with an 8 inch handle. It is easy to carry but the short handle can be a knuckle buster. I will use this for harvesting firewood and general camp chores in Colorado, so mostly soft wood. I also carry a Fiskars pruning saw, so this is a complimentary tool, part of a modern Nessmuk trio with my SAK Huntsman.

Anyone have any experience with any of these? Recommendations?

I have a few CS machetes and after you grind the bevel they work well for the price point, although I am more of an axe guy so they don't get a lot of action. Can't help on the others

Go for the Aztec Cleaver. Short (read: compact) but with a lot of good mass in the blade for chopping. Mirror convex grind right from the factory, top notch sheath, and the blade works well for chopping, batoning, digging, and even food prep. It's almost like a morbidly obese Nessie. :D

Check out Reflections of Asia. Their curved tip bolo is worth WAY more than the $30 they ask for it. Honest, village grade user. Not real polished but it can chop head to head with an HI khuk.

woodsmans pal, proven in 4 wars, does a great job at chopping, making shelter, good brush clearing tool, will drop a small tree easily.

I love my woodmans pal.

Especially for car camping, but it is a good all around blade. I actually use the hook for carrying dutch oven and removing lid, etc. The hook makes a great fire tool for turning logs and the blade has a detent specifically ground there for batoning (not that I baton, but that's what its for)

I prefer it over a machete for traveling in the hardwoods, but if I were in a more swampy locale, I think I would opt for a machete.
