I would be interested in a reproduction of this wooden sword with obsidian bades on both sides. Who can make it for me? I know that "macauahitl" was wooden with inserted obsidian blades. John Pohl in his book "Aztec Warrior AD 1325-1521" (Osprey Series) shows a reproduction of this sword based on historical facts which he made. Macuahuitl is a hefty five -foot (1.52m) long and is secured to the wrist witha slip knot (page 21).I would definitely be interested in having one. Could somebody help me?

Manoucher I bet one of the well known flint knappers could make you one if the price was right. These swords were indeed inset with obsidian usually in a longer, maybe 3 inches, slim flake and not knapped like one would knapp an arrowhead or spear point from what little I know of them. They're strickly a slashing type weapon although a sharpened point on some of the hardwoods from that part of the world would definitely penetrate making a mortal wound.
A search on one of the better engines would probably supply you with someone who could and would make it for you.

He is a custom knife maker specializing in flint knives who has been making knives since 1974. He does excellent work to order (his prices range from $100-$3000+).

PS. I would also post this question on Bladeforums/Sword Forum. Perhaps one of the re-enactors is familiar with a source in Mexico.

Not2sharp,

I will not post on swordforum for some time. I used to be very active there.

Where is the bladeforum?
