I recently went to Azwelke's website to purchase a kydex sheath but some things do happen that I requested a refund. Al, refunded the my payment but not the full amount. here's what he said.

"PayPal keeps some fees, and I figured I'd pass those on you"

Now I had some past PayPal Transaction with knife makers and kydex benders here that I ended up cancelling my order due to the long wait times but I have never experienced this.

I've never had PayPal keep any money on a refund. When the money is returned any other way...maybe...

So what was the difference? If it was .30 then fine. Any other amount is theft. Am I missing something?

I issued a refund a month ago. It was the full amount since I did not have a material in stock for an exchange . If I click refund, the buyer is able to get 100% back. I however get charged a a buck and a few cents for a fee. Not a big deal

That's over 30 cents, of course. But it's not so far over that it couldn't be considered a reasonable "processing" fee. If it were me, I'd let it go.

Maybe it was a buck and change?
maybe it was 30 cents?

Have you asked him exactly what was the fee, that will determine whether he is a thief or a Businessman.
I have refunded money in the past and paid a fee larger than 30 cents. I guess it is all in how you do it

Agreed. I understand the OP is making a point, but I am not sure that $2.00 is worth making a point about.....

Thief is a strong word. When you break this down:

You placed an order and payed for it.
Something happened and you asked for a refund.
Your method of payment (PP) charges a VERY small fee to refund a transaction.
Why should this be the seller/makers to eat?

It's only $2.00 either way. Take the very slightly higher road, and just move on....

I've done business with Al (azwelke) a couple of times, 2 sheaths. He was always very communicative and friendly, and the work was done promptly. I never asked for a refund, so I cannot speak to that... Before we start calling the man a thief, maybe the op can follow the recent advice and ask AL what the fee was, etc... Al's sheaths are excellent and he does a lot of business around here without incident.

This is not exactly the best way to handle a situation like this. Work things out with the maker/buyer/seller FIRST< and if that fails then you can come here and complain. This is a LAST RESORT, not the first stop. Contact Al and ask him what the "fees" are for, and once you get that we can revisit this thread.
