For the longest time I have not been a Spyderco fan. I have owned a Tenacious- Manix 2- Zulu- and some others. The G-10 Tenacious (to me) seemed better than the FRN Manix. The FRN reminds me of the truck stop plastic knives in a fish bowl for $.99!! They didn't do "it" for me. No warm and fuzzy feelings. No disrespect for you Spyderco fans.

Fast forward to 3 weeks ago. While perusing a large auction site I found a deal on a Bryd Cara Cara 2. The listing said it was G10-8Cr steel and free shipping for the same price as a couple of cups of Starbucks coffee..."Buy it now" yes indeed. My intentions were to gift this knife.

Upon arrival there were some issues. The knife arrived in the dreaded FRN and not the G10. Other than that it was a shiny new green box. I took it upon myself to further examine the knife. The FRN was textured just right. Very tacky in your hand. The blade opened nice and smooth and locked with a loud snap. I raised my left arm (like we all do) and searched for a hairy spot. With NO effort at all the hairs popped off my arm. It had a great all around feel to it. At this point all bets were off. Gift hell- I'm keeping this baby. :D

I have carried this knife for about 3 weeks. It has been used hard. I have only had to strop it a few times to keep it sharp. The FRN is holding up nicely- I would have never thought it would.

I have too admit -- I really like this knife. The Cara Cara 2 is rather large (like the Tenacious) but 1/3 of the price. You get a lot of knife for the $$$ with the Byrds! The RAT 1 has a serious contender for the title!!!

length overall 8.563 "
blade length 3.75 "
blade steel 8Cr13MoV
length closed 4.844 "
cutting edge 3.188 "
weight 3.4 oz.
blade thickness .125 "
handle material FRN

I handled a Cara Cara and thought, meh. We need an affordables forum section.

I had one and gifted it, because it is a great knife. Put it side by side with an Endura 4, and except for the blade steel, it's design, size and ergos match up closely. It's a winner.

I always include one of these in my checked luggage when I travel. It's a good knife, and it's inexpensive to replace if it was stolen.

I've been thinning about getting a stainless handled cara cara for a long time

Had two Byrds, this one and a smaller slipjoint. Meant to give the slipjoint to a coworker, since it was new, smaller, and more workplace friendly. But, I handed him the WRONG box. Mind you, the C2 was 'used', and even had some spots on the blade. Realized it the next day, and brought in the new one to show him. I apologized, and said that this new knife was what I meant to give, not the one I had used. He said 'No thanks, I like this big one just fine!". :D

I had a Meadowlark 2 for a while. That was a damned fine knife. Give me the byrds over their Tenacious/Persistence/etc cousins. I like a nice choil, what can I say?

I actually agree. I've had a resilience and an ambitious and I've had three cara caras pass through my hands and I've been considerably more impressed with the Byrd knives.

I didn't like the original cara cara but love the cara cara 2.

- Strong
- Sharp
- Pointy
- Comfortable handle
- Not a sharpened prybar

The Byrds are great. I've at various times EDC'd the Cara Cara 2 and the Tern, both of which handled everything I threw at them with ease. For the price it is very very hard to go past them.

I have a meadowlark 2 and I love it. Sweet little knife with excellent fit and finish. I used it everyday to cut cardboard and open boxes at work until I got an endura 4 for my birthday

I have a Meadowlark 2 FRN that I sharpened myself at 15dps. It is probably too steep for harder cutting, but it is one heck of a slicer.

I have a hawkbill and really like it, picked it up for $18 shipped, the only other byrd's interested in are the new Finch2 and one of the rescue knives for my FAK.

I've had a few. I have been wondering for a while if Spyderco even still makes these since I haven't seen any new models or updates in quite some time

I have thw same byrd knife its a great edc blade big but still light and then enough to keep in the pocket all day.
