So, ever since I got this blade in my grubby paws, I have had something bothering me. And maybe it is naivete. Dunno. But the thing that has been bothering me is: Who in the world needs this wicked a blade for a party????!!! Is Jerry using the word "party" as a euphemism for something else? The way its introduction was worded even seemed a little ... off.
It was "developed out of necessity more than 30 years ago..." That throws me as much as anything. And "...served their time in heavy party zones." Really? What party zone needs this much knife? The spike on this thing looks like it could be driven through a gas tank, car hood, even light armor perhaps. It is wicked. College kids for generations have used the lowly apartment or dorm key to open beers for shotgunning. You don't need a railroad spike.
And the "SPAT?" Snack Pack Attack Tip? I've yet to meet a Cheetos bag that a SAK Classic couldn't SHRED. We're talking a 7.5" blade here.
Don't get me wrong. I LOVE this knife! And the bottle opener works like a champ (on the Coach). But I've gotta be missing something.
Then again.... I have missed all the partys that have happened at BLADE........
I've also been wondering: What else can the butt end be used for? There are the obvious pressure points that could be targeted with the spike. The blade with recurve and CBT and piercing tip seems like a heckuva fighting knife, especially with the balance it has. I thought maybe the bottle opener could be used for a wire breaker, but it's 90 degrees out from how it would need to be to be used for that without some other tool to help you leverage the knife in a twisting motion.
So what does B.U.R.P really mean? Something Urban? Rescue? Am I just reaching?
I'm fortunate to own a Military Overrun <MO> BURP, it's a blade that always makes me smile. It's also one I conceal carry from on a regular basis. I'm still watching for a Coach but I won't trade mine for one and I know it will not get carried as often...
It's your pictures that inspired me to hunt for one... Thank you...Yes, the MO is the best BURP, imho. So well balanced, it's uncanny.
