B10, a question about the tip, rounded or pointed?

Thanks Jerry for the personal response. I had talked to Amy earlier. You guys are without a doubt the best customer service company in the business. Thank you.

Zero edges require quite a bit of blending. It is this blending that will often cause the tip to be ever so slightly rounded.

I have heard many regail the benefits of a rounded tip in so far as it strengthens the tip and increases your slashing surface at the very point. . . All of my personal knives have these micro rounded tips for this very reason. :D

You will be pleasantly surprised when stabbing with these as well, as the penetration can often seem to be greater.

Look at the world of broadheads and you will see where many have started putting chisel tips on their broadheads instead of pointy tips in order to increase penetration.

Try that tip out. . . beat it like you stole it. . . if it's not your game, and you want it pointier, just send it in and we'll make it as pointy as you like at no charge. I think you might be pleasantly surprised.

Let's Drink!!!

From testing this first hand, I can attest to the truth of the slashing and penetration statements. Out of the blades in these pics, the SAR 8 was the best performing blade at stabbing rubber, metal and wood of the bunch... and like Tom said, it had the slightly rounded tip.

My recommendation would be to use it before you pass judgment on it and it may be your new favorite blade tip design. I found that the SAR 6 & 8, the Team Gemini (in satin) and the Boss Jack satin prototypes were the very best of all my stabbers due to both their blade shapes and their slightly rounded zero edge tips. Two other impressive tipped blades were the Jack Hammer and a custom competition finished CGFBM. I've sold other pointier knives, but not those listed, and the shape of the B10 is reminiscent of those blades. Others that did almost as well were the NMSFNO NMFBM LE, and Hell Razor which I eventually sold.

Different SAR 8, I had two users at one time but only the blue one now, boy do they puncture sidewalls like butter.

I liked the performance of these users enough to have them made into a matching pair at the shop, and they have slightly rounded tips too. In fairness though, the Jack Hammer (in the hood pics it is the same blade before handle swapping and did not work as well with the factory pointy tip) got the rounded tip from stabbing through a truck window but it really does perform better afterward as a result. The truck was going to the wrecking yard and the rules required the glass had to be removed, so... why not try the Jack Hammer I thought. It was fun, but what they don't show you in hollywood is how dangerous it is since if you strike the real automotive safety glass with anything less than a 90 degree perpendicular angle the blade can bounce/slide in a manner you least expect, t is hard on the tip, and not recommended for safety.

The great thing is you win either way... if use it and you like it, or if not, the Boss said he will make it right! :D

So Jerry... about the no choil basic 8.... :foot: Bring it!!

Alan sharpened mine #158&#159. They are rounder than my scrapyard SOD, but it doesn't bother me. A knife that thick ain't gonna have a needle point like my CS recon 1.

Im jealous of everyone who recieved thier b10 already! I have been stalking the mailman since i saw the first b10 posts. Im surprised he has not put a restraning order on me.

Brother Tim, you have some BEAUTIFUL knives!!!:D:thumbup:

Blademaster, the B-10's are SWEET!!!;):thumbup::thumbup:

I recall reading a column on this subject many years ago by Bill Bagwell in Soldier and Fortune magazine. (for you young piglets, Bill is a Master Smith, oft
considered the master of the fighting Bowie knife, and had a monthly column entitled "Battle Blades") Bill believes that a fighting knife should have a sharpened clip (false edge) and a razor sharp, ever so slightly rounded tip. The purpose being to have maximum effectiveness in slash and backslash strokes.

It seems to me, that for the OP, and his desire to have a strong and functional tip for making a fire drill; that a needle point may not be the best choice for strength and durability. OTOH, as Jerrry said, they would be happy to make you happy.

Thank you all, aztim, great pics! I haven't seen that many busse knives being hard used in one place for a long time.

I'm going to try it out as soon as I'm physically able too. And decide then.

Thanks again everyone!

Can't wait to get my b10, I had it sent straight to Armoralleather to have a sheath made for it first though.

yeah, but with the convex edge to sharpen that to a point I imagine you would either need a grinder or sand paper and a ton of patience.

That would only take me a few minutes to fix. (not that I am offering to fix anyone's........you would never see that sucker again!).

No a tip that rounded does not look normal to me.

Just looks like they did not get the very tip with the belt.

When I convex my edges (what ever the knife). I normally don't take the belt all the way to the very tip. I prefer to to that last little bit by hand, because I can pay more attention, and make it needle pointy!

It is harder to get the tip as pointy with a slack belt as you can by hand. Those pics look more round than what I am used to seeing with this slight "rounding" with convex edges.

Bummer if you don't like it.

Contact Busse directly, and they will make it right. You won't be dissatisfied.

My two have amazingly sharp edges, but the tips are very rounded.

I found myself wishing for a sharper tip when I first got 'em. I'll trust Jerry on this one, unless the tips prove useless.

Thanks for chiming in Jerry. I may just have to take you up on the offer, depending on the tip performance. I hope I'll be pleasantly surprised as you said.

Did the B-6s have the same rounded tips?

My Basic 6 LE had rounded tip that came dull from Busse direct (sharpened by Beef).

My Basic 10 LE has a rounded tip as well, but is sharp. (also sharpened by Beef).

I'll likely resharpen them with a standard V-Grind eventually, otherwise, I'd definitely send back the Basic 6 LE. It's dull enough that I can have it standing on it's point in the palm of my hand, and the B6LE's weight is not enough for it to cut me.

My two Basic 10 LEs have the less pointy tip, but it feels very capable of stabbing. Overall, the balance and ergos of the Basic 10 are awesome. Feels light in the hand. Great job by the Busse crew in making these fine knives!
