Here's the guest of honor from our New Years celebration.

He had a big ol' wart on the back of his head so I nicknamed him Warty. He was pretty darn tasty! The meat was really dark, I assume because it was still saturated with blood when they cooked it.

Here's all his tender vittles. Blood sausage, kidney, stomach, lung, liver, tongue, etc

Great way to celebrate the New Year, Blue. I ate well yesterday, too. My sons and I attended the Vietnamese TET celebration in Des Moines. The longevity wishes for being an elder, honored for fighting for South Vietnam, bestowed with ample Lucky Money, I did alright, but the FREE, notice I said FREE, lunch was simply outstanding. After eating 5ths and 6ths I was mighty content, but then I thought of Bawanna. Felt guilty and went back for 7ths just so he wouldn't feel left out. Had to take a couple of pans of Xoi Bap, sticky rice with coconut & hominy home for snacking. A happy year of the Monkey to you!

All looks tasty Blue, I love the "wart" you put back on him after he was roasted :D

Too Funny coincidence Bac Si, I spent all day Saturday wandering around the Tet celebration in Seattle. I rarely go into the city as they have a tendency to want to take all my weapons away from me which I resist on general principal. But for Tet I make an exception. Watched an awesome Tuong cai luong play. The costumes were incredible and the singers very errr... Enthusiastic :D It was a great time, and the food was exceptional here too. I always enjoy the Youth and School groups performances as well as the Oral History. They even had some Hip Hop between the performances of Traditional music and the Lion Dance. Great time, but sadly I was so full I didn't think of eating another plate for Bawanna :( I have to be a better friend next year and choke down at least one more plate in his name :D

Sounds like you had a good time, Bookie!

Almost forgot to mention, to complete the sheep theme of the night they used incense that also came from a sheep, albeit indirectly...

It smells sort of like a campfire but... earthier.

Earthier... ROFL that is hilarious. Interesting that they show yurts on the box. I imagine the dung is supposed to be reminiscent of Steppe living. For a true "earthy" experience try a traditional Yurt heated with a small stove that uses dried dung as it's fuel and forget to open the ulkh enough to get a bit of a draw going to pull the smoke up and out. Man, it is amazing how technical the forming of a traditional yurt and how/where to place everything to make it all one functional shelter is. It seems easy, until you realize you placed your yurt facing so the predominant wind pushes the smoke back in instead of helping to pull it out. So many little things that the nomadic part of the Mongol people learned to just do so they forget they need to mention it to those of us who didn't grow up that way. Sort of like we wouldn't think we would need to explain to someone renting a home from us how to turn on the lights LOL.

Earthier?! Whew! I thought I had forgot to take my monthly bath! I just read the label on the incense package. It appears to be made by Waxman. Funny coincidence here this evening. You have natural earthy accumulation. Bookie had to buy a sewer rat this evening to take care of some earthy plug up caused by a zealous Great Grand Daughter. It just so happens the rat was made by Waxman! No sheet, Shakespeare. For real.

Unfortunately I didn't get to eat the head itself. I'm told the meat around the lips and eye sockets are the most desirable.

You are correct with your assumptions. I grew up with Greeks. Oh, boy can they cook lamb as well! Doesn't get much better. Never ceased to amaze me how the prettiest girls fought for the eyeballs!

Whenever I use minnows for bait the fish always suck their eyeballs out and leave the rest . I guess they were on to something.
