Baby Butaniku

Sure, the waki is great too. If it was INFI, I might even like it more than the AK, but it is a little shorter too

Well, for one I love the AK, however the blades of the AK vs the Buts are very different. Butaniku has the fuller and I believe it is thicker. From what I remember the AK is .190 or somewhere close to that thickness. I think the Baby But should be around .250 thick, same upward curve as the Butaniku, with sorta a double stacked TGLB handle for both hands to barely fit, and the light brigade treatment on the handle as well. Double handguarded also as the TG line. Yes I know this may resemble an elongated TGLB. ...but in a way that is kinda the direction I am seeking.

Why do you want it to be thicker than the AK47? If the blade is to be reasonably narrow, as is typical for Japanese swords, but thick, then it will have a rather steep grind angle, which works against being a good cutter. I had an AK, but never used it, and felt that the grind was too blunt. Both my Ruck and Waki have been reprofiled somewhat to a narrower angle, but you can only do so much without a significant regrind.

A Baby Butaniku would look cooler, but the B13 will be more useful by far.

True to a degree, but aren't Bolo's thin machetes? Which I don't feel .25 is even thin enough to be considered a Bolo or machete more like a Xiphos or Makhaira.

You know how back in the day you would see those cheap chinese sword sets with three swords all nicely stacked in order on a single stand. That's ideally what I am looking at as far as dimensions. A third Butaniku to complete a three sword set? Simply imagine a shorter Short Butaniku, shorter handle and shorter blade. Thicker than the other two isn't needed in my opinion, but I would leave all the designing and final outcome to the Boss Hog Himself. I figure he can get that thickness and weight ratio done right.

Agreed. If the B13 comes in at 0.25", then it will be too heavy and slow for my taste. I'm hoping 0.187" max.

It sounds like you're talking about what we consider the traditional Japanese sword set:
Katana - 23" - 29"
Wakizashi - 12" - 24"
Tantō - 6" - 12"

So with Busse SLO (Sword Like Objects) it would be the Tantō you're after.
I'd buy one!

evltcat....that is exactly what I am referring to but I have a feeling the Baby Butaniku would be a tad larger due to the But and short But being fairly long. To keep the sizes proportional I am guessing the Baby Butaniku would have a 14"-16" blade...but that is just a guess from pics I see. Maybe someone who has both or knows both lengths could come up with a better estimate on blade length.

I still need one of these since the Butanikus on the exchange popped up...need a shorty BUT!

I agree resin...the 13 needs to be much thinner than the Baby But. BBut on the back and 13 on the hip.

Be careful when you consider blade thickness. You want it thick enough so it doesn't vibrate or wobble (for lack of better expressions). You do not want it so thick that it'll deprive it of its agility and ease of use as a sword.

I've got one very mean Highland claymore sword. I had it made with a slightly shorter blade than historically correct size (but I've been told that they were made in all kinds of sizes ). Even with 5 or 6 inches shorter, it's still difficult to change direction in mid-swing.
If you mean it to be a sword more than an axe ..... Keep it as light as possible.
My AK handles quite well.... And works well as a machete, if that's what I want it to do...

I completely understand what you mean Nox. I preferably want it to be the same thickness as the parents are. Like cat said to complete the traditional three sword set....kinda...with a Ton of pork influence you know.
